Evening folks!

I'm brand new to The Escapist but I'm a long-time roleplayer. I've run this story a few times with friends and would love to give it a go here. It's set in the Diablo (game) universe, though I had to alter some of the story lines for the sake of cohesion. No heavy amounts of lore knowledge is required, but if you're interested it's all online somewhere. I would love some feedback or character sheets from you guys, any advice is good advice.

Note: Please don't sign up if you're not committed, there's nothing worse than when someone pulls out after the first few days!

The Fall of Tristram

Three months has passed since Aidan, Vanquisher of Evil, emerged from the cathedral victorious over Diablo. Yet a new and terrible fear had settled over Tristram like fine ash. It was subtle. It made the townsfolk nervous, anxious; they suspected eachother for unknown crimes. The prime target of their allusions was Aidan himself, who spent his days in solitary shadow. His only comfort was the traveller Adria, who herself was unwelcome in the town. The nights grew longer, and the people more furtive, until suddenly. They vanished.

Then the demons came.

Tristram turned overnight into ash and blood, those unfortunate enough to survive were taken prisoner. Among them was the Horadric Scholar, Deckard Cain. What knowledge was held of the Prime evils was locked away with him, and it seemed that nothing was standing between the Dark Wanderer, and his brothers.

And thus, you are summoned...

It was Tyrael, archangel of Justice, who watched from afar as Tristram burned. As the flames engulfed the ancient cathedral, a new fear awoke within him. Whatever left that town as it fell to ruin posed not only a threat to man, but all creation above the Burning Hells. Charged with the fate of mankind, Tyrael summoned what was left of the Nephalem, in the hopes of tracking down the Wanderer before he released Hatred and Destruction upon the world.

General Information

* While technically beginning in the second game, feel free to create your character from any game.

* Have a little backstory in your head - helps to keep things interesting. :)

* Be reasonable with your inventory - I refuse to believe a sorceress can carry four battle-axes strapped to her back.

* As I'm not familiar with every facet of every game, feel free to create minor details that don't clash with anything else. Don't be stupid with it.

* I will be cycling between Tyrael and Auriel as guides. As such it will be up to you guys as to how you proceed!

* All information on classes will be in dot points, because I refuse to be verbose in planning.

* This will be run in the group function, using dice to determine certain events.

Check the wiki for further info if you need it.

Defenders of Mount Arreat, they are fierce warriors who strive for victory at any cost

* Barbarians hail from the Western Kingdoms, and consider themselves children of Bul'Kathos - a powerful Nephalem warrior.

* Though rarely seen, there are women in the Barbarian culture who rise above maternal duties to join the ranks.

* Barbarians are brutal melee fighters. Masters of all physical weapons, they use their brute strength to crush their enemies.

* The best barbarians are clad in heavy steel armour, though the more swift defenders simply wrap themselves in hides and iron.

* Though often unapproachable, Barbarians are loyal friends and brave allies.

A wandering warrior of the South Seas, these female tribes are sought after as loyal mercenaries

* Amazonian women are not taken as a female equivalent barbarians - they employ the use of spears, javelins, shields and bows.

* Working as mercenaries has taught the Amazon hit & run tactics, as well as an understanding of trade routes.

* They are usually seen wearing a mixture of leathers, steel and hide guards.

* Excellent in working in groups, they often emerge as natural leaders.

A zealot of Light, the Paladin uses faith to bless their allies and smite their foes.

* Paladins hail from Westmarch, where the Cathedral of Light trains initiates to fight the forces of justice.

* Though considered judgemental and over-zealous, Paladin's seek only to root out evil and corruption.

* Paladins wear shining armour, and often carry tower shields to batter foes away, while slashing with longswords.

* Their faith bestows upon them the ability to rally allies and lead them to battle.

* Both men and women carry the Seal of Light into battle.

From the South Marshes come the mysterious and horrifying Necromancers, who summon the forces of darkness to suit their own needs.

* Necromancer's ability stems from studying the forces of life and death, which has caused society to shun them as outsiders.

* They often wear dark robes adorned with bone ornaments - a source of many of their spells.

* Though they have a vast wealth of knowledge, Necromancers often have difficulty with the most simple of social situations. Working in a group can be...awkward.

* Both male and female necromancers suffer from the side-effects of living in dark, musty conditions; Pale skin, skeletal figures and cold, weary eyes.

These rogue magi roams the land harnessing the elements to bend reality to their will.

* Hailing from the northern island of Xiansai, male magic users are known as Wizards, and their female counterparts known as Sorceress'.

* They use their inherent mana to control elemental forces, wreaking havoc and defending themselves with a flick of the wirst.

* Often eccentric, they are considered extremely dangerous by the people of Sanctuary.

* Many magi detest working with those who aren't schooled in magic, quickly becoming detached and anti-social.

* Magi have been seen wearing an array of intricate robes and sashes.

Leading their tribes in the northern forests of Scosglen, they are one with the forces of nature.

* Druid magic differs from that of a Wizards, as they utilise natural magic such as vines, animals and natural phenomena.

* As they are from nomadic, tribal societies, their understanding of society is extremely limited.

* Fearsome warriors, they bring swift death with crude weapons and powerful magic.

* Though they detest killing animals, they often wear the hides of wolves, bears and deers, adorned with feathers of exotic birds.

* Their link with nature allows them to lead without subjectivity.

Trained as Mage slayers, these shadowy warriors use enchanted weapons and stealth to dispatch their foes.

* To keep both Monk and Assassin viable, the Assassin will be more focused on stealthy-knifey gameplay rather than traditional martial arts.

* Their main weapons are traps, enchanted daggers, and thrown weapons.

* Their elite and exclusive training allows them to slink through the shadows unseen.

* Working in a group, they are often silent and compliant. Though dedicated to their cause, they will eliminate anyone to reach their goal.

* Unless in disguise, they often wear dark chain mail, with many weapons and poisons hooked on their belt.

* Though reports are far and few, there have been sightings of both male and female assassins.

Devoted warriors of peace and light, they use their bodies as precise and powerful weapons.

* Hailing from the monastery in Ivgorod, their faith is not as zealous as that of the Paladins. They believe in creativity, harmony and balance; as opposed to holy purification.

* Trained heavily in martial arts and the use of staves, they seek only to restore balance to the world.

* Their faith and creativity allow them to tap into their spirit and unleash devastating holy attacks.

* Both male and female monks are peaceful and passive, preferring to follow instead of lead. They will not tolerate corruption, though some say that evil is a necessary presence in Sanctuary.

* Monks adorn an array of clothes, ranging from robes to scaled armour.

A fanatical warrior living on the edge of darkness and light, they live outside the boundaries of law, land and religion.

* Often trained by other Demon Hunters as runaways, orphans or abandoned children, they tap into their hatred and discipline to wield deadly ranged contraptions - crossbows and glaives.

* Though the assassin can sneak into a battle, a Demon Hunter can use dark mists to quickly shroud themselves and take a breath.

* Their training makes them expert marksmen at short range, taking speed over distance.

* Both men and women don the dark armour of a demon hunter, hiding their identities with hoods and masks.

* Demon Hunters are often slightly warped and extremely cynical, their black humour segregating them from society.

Using guile and cunning, Witchdoctors' use ancient and strange magic to command risen subjects to cut through their foes.

* Little is known about the Witchdoctors' origins, though they have been spotted living in the Southern Swamps.

* Donning tribal masks and minimal clothing, they shun societies norms in order to reach their own goals.

* Though similar to both the Necromancer and the Druid, they utilise death and nature to command rancid animals and summon walls of corpses.

* Held dear to every witchdoctor is a ceremonial knife, used for rituals and rites alike.

* Though most Witchdoctors surviving are women, there are still old and fanatical males wandering the forests.

So there's just some basic info on classes, feel free to add/subtract any information.

Here he is.
Name: Lucius Syphon

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Class: Necromancer

Appearance: Lucius is a kind of tall (6'2) and thin (140lbs). His skin is really white just like his hair. His eyes are dark brown. If you look into his eyes long enough you begin to feel uneasy. He wears an armor made out of dark magic and the bones of multiple creatures and people. Along with the armor is a black cape that helps protect from magic. He also uses the staff of his master which used to be an demon staff before it was re forged. He also wears an big backpack filled with books and potions and alchemical ingredients.

Made by EvilMufasa

Only then with black magic instead of red.

Personality: Lucius is cold and very intelligent. He doesn't care much for conversation unless he could learn something from the conversation. Or the conversation is with someone who is just as intelligent or strong as him. He likes talking to other magic users. He hates demons. He hasn't seen much of the world but he has read allot about it.

Inventory: His master staff. His dark armor. His magic resistant cape. A backpack. A few magic books. A few potions. And allot of alchemic and magical ingredients. And also some bones. And a strong magic infused ceremonial dagger. He also wears some money with him that used to belong to his master he hides it in one of the bones in his bag. He also wears an cursed ring which strengthens his necromancy and allows him to summon some of his creations from anywhere to him.

Fighting style: He usually fights by summoning the dead to fight for him. He uses an arsenal of spells to kill his foes from a distance. And also posses allot of spells to defend himself. And also spells strengthen his creations. He doesn't know much about hand to hand combat or fighting with melee weapons. He can use his dagger as a last resort with that he is quite handy but that is about it.

Background: 25 years ago a necromancer traveled from village to village looking for children with magic. He needed a pupil and wanted one he could mold into whatever he wanted.
He found a caravan that was looted by bandits. However looking through it he could still sense 2 people. He found a dying man with a baby in his hands. He offered to take the baby with him recognizing his magic potential. The man accepted knowing the only alternative was death by starvation or some wild animal. The necromancer took the child with him to the marches raising him as an necromancer. He called him Lucius.

The child was extremely skilled in magic and very intelligent. He began to see him more and more as his own son. He taught him to be completely devoid from emotions. And value power and knowledge above all else. He taught him everything he knew. He was also really good in alchemy finding it very interesting he practiced allot.

The other necromancers where weary of Lucius he was different somehow he even scared them. Then something happened what forever changed there opinion off him. He was out in the woods exploring with another young necromancer when they ran into some wolfs. Lucius easily killed a few of them with his spells the other student however wasn't so luck bleeding out on the ground he pleaded for help. Lucius however just watched him die looking fascinated at how everything went. After the other pupil died he revived him then walked back to the other necromancers.

They master of the dead pupil couldn't believe his eyes and neither could the other necromancers. There are very few taboo's when it comes to necromancy. However one of them is raising another necromancer. But Lucius didn't seem to care. After that incident he was shunned by the other necromancers. His master was however very proud and kept learning him more foul magic even for necromancy his magic pushed all the boundaries. He practiced with his undead giving them traps and other horrible things to disgust his opponent. His master did learn him some conversation skills but he is still bad with other people.

His master was killed by the demons 3 months ago. Lucius feels little emotion but this he did feel sadden that the only person he understood and who understood him died. After that he left his home land and began searching for more power as well as any demon he could kill on the way. His dream is to one day be immortal.

Special skill: Alchemy.

Tell me if i made any mistakes or if something isn't clear. I don't know much about Diablo.

Looks great, love the detail. I must warn you that your magic resistant cape probably wont be given a large modifier; a fireball will probably still hurt. A lot.

Other than that, as long as you have a few spells in mind, can't ask for more. Good job!

Name: Ada Sydd

Age & Gender: 21, Female

Class: Demon Hunter

Appearance: With the trademark hood and cape of a Demon Hunter, it is hard to discern her features. She stands at 5'6" and slim, yet curvaceous at 120 pounds. Peel her hood away you will stuck by the scar that lies below her left eye and continues down her cheek where hellfire licked her face. Other than that, plain brown eyes and brown hair.

Personality: Ada is bound to duty against the demons that destroyed her home and her family. She hates it when villagers of other demon-ravaged settlements reward her for her kills since it makes Ada feel like a vulture on those poor people. Made an orphan at the tender age of 8, she is highly independent. However her training as a Demon Hunter made her mature before her time and because of this, she has grown jaded and cynical. Still suffers from Survivor's Guilt and largely tries to make up for the fact that she didn't save her parent's lives when the demons attacked.

Inventory: Her two hand crossbows called Salvation and Damnation, quivers of bolts for said crossbows, leather armour, cloak with the symbol of her Demon Hunter order (a crimson hawk.) and matching hood and knives.

Fighting style: She mostly relies on her two hand crossbows to do the job but uses the knives as a backup. Ada also knows how to use traps and set up a mechanical turret that fires arrows, but rarely has the resources for that when she is fighting demons.

Background: She was there, at the age of 8, when Tristram burned for the first time. All was engulfed in hell-fire, her family, her friends, her home - all gone. All Ada remembers of that fateful night are the screams of her parents, everyone around her being butchered by hellspawn and waking up, in the middle of ash and corpses tracing the burn on her cheek. Without help, Ada wouldn't have survived past that day, luckily a Demon Hunter found her and took her to The Borderlands. To kindle the anger inside her and to teach her the ways of the Demon Hunter. Decades passed as training sessions blurred into each other until her training was complete. Ada had found her strength in crossbows and the shadows, but lacked the patience to master traps and turrets. She was summoned and told that she was ready:

"We are the survivors, and we are searching for vengeance. Go now, and bring vengeance to the hellspawn that infest this land."

She took those words to heart and travelled the land, killing any demon she came across and she came across many for she was following their hoove prints far and wide.

Special skill: Tracking Demons

This okay? Also, out of curiosity, what's your username from?

Name: Tyris Sedair

Age & Gender: 34

Class: Assassin

Appearance:beyond him being around 6 feet and less than a 150 lbs, dark is all that could really describe him, skin, eyes, and hair of the darkest satin and a cloak covering most of his body, his forehead shines with the light of an enchanted jewel with his emotions when he concentrates, otherwise it looks to simply be an extension of his head.

Personality: fully dedicated to the cause of hunting demons and especially demon-summoning magic-users, Tyris is a quiet one, mostly due to the fact that he's a mute.

Inventory: a plethora of quick traps, rope, poisons,an enchanted cloak, a dark side to blend in with the shadows, and a light side that shines, and two enchanted weapons, his scissor quatars and his hand crossbow, both made to pierce magical defenses. He also carries a half-dozen normal throwing daggers on his person as well, should the other two weapons fail.

Fighting style: Tyris prefers to stick to the shadows, timing his strikes with precision and lethality. If he's forced to fight a group, then he will first make a trap and then draw the survivors of his first attack into the trap.

Background: Born a mute, and always a mute, Tyris studied the ways of the Assassin early in life and learned first-hand how dangerous both mad Wizards and Demons were as he watched them tear apart a village from a nearby ridge. They were eventually defeated, but not before they had leveled it and killed many of his "family". His hatred of demons and especially anyone that dares to summon them is beyond the norm, enough so that he sees any magic-user as a potential threat and often has a way to spell their demise should they turn to the vilest of magics.

Special skill: cooking

@AshenTail In know in diablo 2 druids could only shift into bears or wolves, any chance I could choose some other forms for my druid to have or are you sticking to stuff from the games only?

Awesome, just thought I should ask as some GMs can be a bit strict lore-wise.

Expect a sheet from me tomorow

Just chosen on whim then? That's ok. Asking for reasons behind usernames is like asking like reasons behind tattoos, most are just sheer impulse.

Anyway, she has about 200 gold, rations and a sleeping bag? I dunno what's a low amount so I left that bit out. Refusing rewards isn't going to make you rich.

Name: Magnus the Greymantled

Age: 61

Gender: Male

Class: Barbarian

Appearance: The first thing most people notice about Magnus is his long mane of gray hair and the deep lines in his face - some from age, some from blades. Despite his age, his body is still strong and corded with muscle, his eyes are still bright with intelligence and wit, and his movements still steady and sure. He's unstooped, still standing at just over seven feet tall. His mouth is almost always creased with a broad grin easily visible through his thick, gray beard and his eyes bright with laughter - sometimes in mirth, sometimes in battle-madness. Magnus eschews the heavy armor of some of his brethren and instead favors thick hides and lighter, more flexible chain armor.

Personality: Magnus is ultimately driven by glory - past glories and the desire for future ones. He's old, and he's a warrior. He knows his death is soon, but he craves to go out on one last hurrah, one last glorious battle that will carve his name into the annals of history for all eternity, for his name to still be whispered in the lists of heroes in a thousand years. Everything else - the mirth, the flirting, the vast quantities of ale and the boisterous behavior is all just window dressing around his heart's desire - for his last battle to be worthy of a great song.

Inventory: Magnus carries a massive two handed sword nearly as tall as he is. The blade is fairly simple, a cruciform hilt leading to a massive blade, and it is well-worn, the steel notched and scratched in numerous places, but it's highly cared for and kept well sharpened, and in battle Magnus uses it to great effect, his swings cleaving through armor and flesh and bone. Mail armor with hide padding underneath. 15 gold and a pair of flasks, one filled with water, the other with wine. Two days worth of dried rations.

Fighting style: The best defense is a good offense. Magnus uses his and his sword's size to keep enemies at a distance via a field of whirling death, while his light armor allows him to quickly advance and continue collecting heads. He varies his tactics a bit on bigger enemies, and is equally comfortable there drawing their attacks while his allies move to deliver the killing blow as he is going for the killing blow himself while an ally draws attacks.

Background: Magnus the Greymantled - once known as Magnus the Golden - has been fighting for nearly fifty years, wandering the world protecting it from all manner of beasts. Born on the mountain fortress of Arreat and trained in the way of blade and axe, he has been for some time one of the most well known living barbarians, having killed the great beast Akulakh, and is the subject of the ballad 'Magnus of the Whiskey Dick', a popular - albeit incredibly bawdy - song about an early adventure of Magnus - the less said about it in his presence the better, although he seems to find the song itself amusing.

Some Barbarians return to Arreat or find a place to settle, and others die. But Magnus did neither - the wanderlust never abated, and his skill never waned enough for a blade to find a home in his neck. And so he continued his journey. But so far, he's always been just a 'respected barbarian'. A hero, perhaps, but not a legend. When he died and his bones were dust, he would be forgotten.

That was one thing Magnus couldn't allow. He didn't fear death, but being forgotten was unacceptable.

Special skill: Magnus was trained as a skald in his youth, and still possesses skill at both song and poetry. Combined with his decades of experience in the bar, the bedroom, and the battlefield, he has a lot to draw on.

Hmm, this looks interesting. I've got a few questions/clarifications, though.

Can I be a class from Diablo I? I see a lack of the Warriors of Khanduras, the Rogues of the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye and the Sorcerers/Iron Wolves of the Eastern Lands.

I also want to know arch-type you need the most right now. I'm not exactly picky and always like a challenge, so tell me what you want to balance the dynamics.

Thanks in advance!

I left our the Rogues and Sorcerers as I feel they've been integrated into entire or a few classes. You may add a sufficient backstory to one of the classes involving that though? I apologise for being the imagination police.

Right now, I have Demon Hunter, Barbarian and Necromancer. I don't mind what you choose, though a monk seems to fit well.
