So I have never really been a dungeon crawler person, I have tried Torchlight and Fate and neither of them have really held my interest longer then an hour or so and so I was curious why Diablo fans enjoy the series or what makes the game series so addicting and enjoyable to you guys that I am oblivious to.
Also if I were to order the battlechest via Amazon is there a difference between buying it used or new?

Some people, including me, just like crawling dungeons advancing and upgrading yourself forever.

Pretty much.

If you can get into them they are pretty much the ultimate time killer.

Hmm so if I were to order the battlechest from say Amazon, would buying it used be any different then buying it new?

The only difference is price and possibly the quality of the cd. The only drm that the game had was a cd key. Basically the thrill of diablo is grinding to get better equipment so you can grind to get better equipment. Ya I know it sounds kind of strange but thats really it.
It's the same argument with Raiding in WoW, but that thrill is still there. I've grinded all of the characters on the Diablo 3 beta and loved it, so looking forward to May!

Eastern Suns Mod [http://homepage3.nifty.com/miyoshino/es/es3top.htm] is a fun and free addition to the game. New classes, massive quantities of loot, unlimited shared stash, and many ways to modify and upgrade your stuff.

With the mod, not only can you add sockets and put gems or rune stones in them, you can also meld gems, forge additions, add tinkering bonuses, re-roll items, craft items, and more. I like doing this kind of stuff.

Well you get more stuff and it makes you better, as in life. The difference is that you don't have to deal with anything more complex than setting up your skills and clicking on stuff, rather than competing with other humans.

Loot grind 24/7, it's the simplest and cheapest way to feel like you are always progressing.
That used to be enough for me to play a game but now it just isn't anymore.

If yo've played Torchlight and Fate, you have played Diablo. I am serious - these are almost carbon copies of Diablo 2, right down to the hotkeys.Only with fancier graphics and different classes. If you didn't like them, I doubt you'll like Diablo. Seeing as they are the same games and all.

But as to why people like them - it's a nice little Skinner box, like a miniature WoW. It's good for wasting time, even better if you have other friends to join you but ultimately it is a waste of time. I've played it a lot back in the day and I thought it was fun, I stopped then started again a couple of times until some time after the v1.10 patch was released. It made everything so utterly boring that I snapped out of it and I never came back to play D2 again.

Well, to be honest, Torchlight was made by the same guys that made Diablo 2, after they left the studio, so it being very similar is not surprising. Fate is a mix of a few dungeon cralers ptu together, nothing innovative, so ibvoulsy it will copy diablo a lot.

Also to original poster, if you played those two and didnt like it, i guess you just dont like that type of games, so why torture yourself instead of just playing what you like?
