OK this is my first forum so im not sure if user reviews is a forum to have a ***** about a game but it seemed an appropriate section.

In one of yahtzees reviews he introduced me to a term called a 'dick move' in referring to unfair & impossibly hard sections in a game whether they be a level, a move or a boss.
Now im a big final fantasy fan & 12 has impressed me so far with its original gameplay (original for the ff series anyway) & good story line plus all the names & terms from the previous games subtly blended in for avid ff fans to pick up on.

But like previous ff games before it it also has its share irratabilities. But none like that in ff 12.
One supreme anoyance in the game is chance. Everything is based on Chance & never usually in your favour. A specific loot you need for the bazaar can take hours to steel from or be dropped by a monster (usually rare or hard to get to) & hunting down rare game or changing weather conditions is so friggin tedious! This is the point where i empathise with mr croshaw who hates RPG's on the simple fact that something which is supposed to be fun just feels like WORK!
I would also like to point out the sheer uselessness of the diamond armlet which instead of giving me superior items just replaces them with knots of bloody rust! I should have three ribbons by now but i dont cos two of them are knots of rust. Wheres my excalibur? Knot of rust. Did i mention these are one time only chests?
I should like to mention the necessity of the ribbons because im encountering monsters that like casting multible status attacks, the worst of which confuse & disable.

Another problem with the game are the most powerful weapons. Theyre only atainable near the end of the game or after youve beaten some bastard bosses. In other words its too late. You get the weapons after you needed them.
& Then theres the zodiac spear. Dont open 4 chests in such & such locations. Who the hell's gonna figure that out? I dont wanna have to play a game totally reliant on a strategy guide.
Oh sure I can get the spear in the henne mines, with the diamond armlet, after i fight my way through really hard monsters with high levels & 1% or less chance of it actually turning out to the damn spear. In which case you have to soft reset & try & try & try & try again.
Chance, soft resets, WORK. minus fun.

Speaking of the henne mines its about time i wrapped up this review with the biggest dick move of all-ZODIAC.
The final & hardest esper of all. Now its bad enough having to make your way all the way through the henne mines just to get to him being swamped with bloody etems & necrofiends that just wont piss off & leave you alone & running into traps planted in walk ways hitting you with the worst status effects (even if you can sneak around it one of the idiots in your party is guarantee'd to walk into it)
But fighting zodiac was a royal pain in the arse! Now i know he's supposed to be a challenge like the ultima & omega weapons of previous games but they all had strategies to beating them (even if it was just continuously & repeatativly bombing them with your esper/GF/eidelon/aeon whatever) The only strategy for zodiac is not dying.
Zodiac is the dick move king. I had him down to a minute amount of health & he wipes out my first party with darkja. A move that is supposed to be the most powerful dark attack but appearantly isnt elemental because the party member with a black mask died instead of healed.
I would have revived them while on the second party but for some reason the game wont allow me to transfer party members if theyre standing in certain positions, resulting in him eventually wiping me out with his dick move darkja making the last two hours of effort totally redundant because the developers didnt feel the need to stick a save crystal before the fight supposedly adding to the challenge but instead adding to my stress & decreasing my love the game.

Beating him would not have been too hard since i was at level 80 & was armed with the tournesol, ultima sword & sagittarius. But it was when i had him by the balls he decided to have a dick move masquerade & pull this magic field crap that makes him immune to both magical & physical attacks. At first he did it one by one but nearing his death he decided to be immune to both making anything i do (including mist attacks) futile.
It was in this stage of invincibilty he decided to do his favourite move -Darkja. & Leaving me to decide if its worth bying a playstation 3 for the next installment of stress & anger.

Seriously! I understand having a challenge, i was proud when i toiled to beat ruby & emerald weapon in FF7. & I love figuring out plans & strategies for beating the mongrel bosses, thats why crono-trigger will always be my fav RPG (whens the next installment of the coming out anyway?) But seriously, Zodiac just dogged me. Becoming invincible & pulling an attack that instantly wipes out the competition. Thats something a child does with a game that has cheat codes or with a game genie or something (game genies were for the original nintendo, im really showing my age now) & please dont bother giving me advice, i do have access to strategy guides though i really shouldnt have to use them.

I will beat him eventually but wasting all that time & effort & coming so close only to be dogged by a most unfair dick move just ruins my game experience.

There is another installment of Chrono Trigger. It's called Chrono Cross. It came out for the PS1.

Thats quite a rant, my friend... Though I'm actually sure that this belongs in Gaming Discussion rather then review, as it only attacks one single aspect of the game. Also, edit your title or you'll get a temp ban for foul language in a thread title, and that won't be fun for your first thread.

...And people wonder why I don't like the game.
At least in FF2, you get Ultima before going through Hell. (literally)
