this is such an interesting era (although remotely fictional). the characters are interesting, the environments are all creepy alleyways. i just think the environment is good for horror, RPG and even possibly action an assassins creed style game

i know professor layton is a dickensian style and that is very popular

anyone else think this era would be a good setting for games? if so what type of games would suit it?

N.B: when i refer to dickensian. im not being exclusive to the works of dickens, just that style and that time period

Just so long as I don't see yet another Jack the Ripper adventure (or worse, hidden object!) game. Otherwise, yeah, I could definitely see an Assassin's Creed-like game.

So I guess a game set in the Dickensian era would be very similar to the Victorian Era? Or is it the same?

Anyways that would be incredibly awesome, the Victorian Era is one of my favourites. An Assassins Creed game in that period would be great. Or some sort of Detective game (NOT HOLMES, or a shooter set in the colonial areas (though that might be unpopular).

yes early victorian

i love the atmosphere, the poverty and the massive early steam powered factories. an assassin game in this setting would just work fantastically PLUS the characters are always really interesting. Even a GTA style game would be cool

Alright, but I call no shooters. I refuse to watch a ninety second reload animation for every shot.

Yeah, I love that era. Anything that uses it tends to be more steampunkish though, but I guess that's not really a bad thing. 1800s for the win

Exactly what period (a rough date of some kind)? London did and didn't change in a lot of ways during Dicken's(seses) lifetime. I do agree it would make for some interesting stuff as a setting since it was a period when multiculturalism started really changing areas of london.

There were six shooters at the time, I think they were invented in the 1830's (I'll have to double check that). With regard to single shot musketry you could see it as a resource management thing. How do you use that one shot? Who do you use it on? Will you get a chance to load and get a second? It could be a really interesting mechanic as long as it isn't central to the gameplay.

a rough date would be 1815 - 1830. the industrial age is just on the horizon but still traditional

i agree with your thoughts on shooting, you could use mainly tradional bladed weapons but you get a single highly accurate musket round every so often that has to be used wisely
