just wondering did anywhere NOT get nuked in Fallout because most of the major cities seemed to get leveled and even whenever places like New Vegas AREN'T nuked they still seem to be a wasteland, so aside from the threads obvious question another one would be which countries weren't affected? my guess would be the likes of Ireland, Finland, Norway and a few asian and african ones
I was thinking about this recently, I think pretty much most of the world (if not all would have been pretty much destroyed. Place that would have faired best would have been Australia and New Zealand. But even then the amount of radiation in the world would have affected them severely. Actually now I think about it Iceland would probably have faired well too.

Uh New Vegas wasn't hit, and it was already a desert, and you know, when nobody maintains a building it does fall to pieces on it's own.

Considering the more commonly used isotopes in nuclear bombs have half-lives upwards of 150,000 years, 200 years probably isn't enough to clear up the radiation from hundreds of separate detonations.

I would've thought Africa would'nt be directly obliterated, just severe radiation poisoning, unless NATO siezes the oportunity to take out Mr Mugabe. I would love to see a Fallout game set in London, yeah seeing the DC Ruins and the Mojave Wastelands is cool, but I really want to experiance a post apocalyptic game in England, also wandering through the deserted corridors of Buckingham Palace or The House Of Commons would be pretty cool.
Imagine the Underground Metro. Filled with Ghoul Chavs/Raiders. Holy shit!
the scariest thing on this earth if most comical as well amiright bruv?

i think the thing is that all the fallout (no pun intended i meant the radioactive stuff) along with the global warming would majorly fuck up the world even in places where no nukes were used and even so their was a big war to so all the places that would be scared from battles wouldnt be helpful either

It was kinda implied that the whole conflict was global in nature, although it was instigated by the US & China, so I'm pretty sure that means anywhere and everywhere. ...well maybe not Antarctica.

The whole point is that everywhere got hit, just about. Once China and the US started firing their bombs, all the rest of the world panicked and fired their own.
There have never been more than 13 countries that have nukes though.....
Yeah, but Fallout is set in an alternate reality where technology is far more advanced. The bombs went off in 2077, or something.
2077? Oh..... well then we can't have ANY clue! Sweden-Norway-Finland could be one country, All of Africa could have been developed and been superpowers.....

By which you mean "some places in America got nuked, thus 95% of the world did"
A war between China and America that results in America being nuked does NOT result in the end of humanity. One of the beautiful things about FO is that you have no idea what is on the outside.
Ah, actually, it's pretty solidly pointed out that everyone with nukes nailed everyone else. It wasn't a surprise attack by China on the US. It was Mutual Annihalation.
Really? I have to admit, I was running on prejudice, as I haven't played 1+2. When was did it say this?

Do you know the halflife of plutonium? I mean neither do I but you should check that out if you want to make cliams like that.
according to wikipedia, depending on the isotope of plutonium it ranges from 84 years (238pu) to 8,080,000 years (244pu).

If it's the 84 year halflife isotope, most of the radiation present in fallout would dissipate in about 200 years. *shrug*
Yes, but does radiation turn people into Ghouls? No, therefore we must conclude that these weren't traditional nukes that was used, but rather the more magical pixie-dust.
And as you may know, these bombs radiation wont disperse until its convenient to do so.

I'm pretty sure the amount of overall nukes detonated around the world pretty much irradiated everywhere on Earth. Look at the path of radiation from Chernobyl and you'll see what I mean.

Of course Fallout radiation is a bit on the magical side already.

I was mostly just pointing out that half-lives vary a LOT

as for the other comment about this quote, I doubt you can just pick and choose which isotopes you use, I'm sure there are reasons why using one isotope is impossible where using another one is practical. Different Isotopes are basically different things.

It's never made clear seeing as fallout is based in the US which has no contact with other countries, it's left a mystery but it is assumed that we are all screwed
