So I just bought a PC, I had a look round and it seemed like a good deal. But now I'm being told it might hav been a bad deal.

It's mostly gunna be used for daily stuff, but with a sideline in gaming. Apparently there's some crap stuff in it.

As you can tell, I really don't know much about computers. I'm kinda embaressed. Any help would be appreciated.

The Acer Aspire M5811 Refurbished Desktop PC is powered by the potent Intel® Core? i5-650 Processor and runs Microsoft's Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium operating system. Equipped with an impressive 6GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, this powerful desktop computer is ready for anything!

The sleek brushed-metal enclosure of the Acer Aspire M5811 features smart ergonomics for easy access to the power button and drive bays - even in the dark. The generous array of connectivity options includes 8 USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet, built-in WiFi for wireless internet access, both HDMI and VGA display options, a multi-in-1 memory card reader, and both analogue and digital audio out ports.

Home computers are often used for entertainment such as games or movies, and the Acer Aspire M5811 excels in these applications thanks to its powerful NVIDIA GeForce GT 320 graphics card with 1GB of dedicated video memory.

The Acer Aspire M5811 Refurbished Desktop PC is a great-value choice for users who seek much more than the basics.

If it still has information in the hard drive and was not properly wiped prior to your ownership, then you're entirely justified in raising an eyebrow.
If the content on it that remains is that strange or egregious, bring it to the authorities to see if it might have been stolen. Otherwise if information is still on it, swing it by a repair shop to have it properly wiped.

Regarding the hardware, it matters little if you feel you were ripped off or not if you already bought it; computers are not investments so they can't appreciate value. If it's that much of a concern for you, keep in mind that in the future you should do very thorough research before purchasing.

An aside, I recognize your avatar. Unfortunate Valve never actually used that piece of graffiti in-game, isn't it?

Specs wise it seems perfectly fine as far as I can tell. Heck, my humble little MacBook Pro cost twice as much as that and has about half the capabilities (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ, 6GB RAM... etc XD), so I wouldn't worry about it :p

That said, I'm not a computer whiz either I'm afraid... still, I'd say you didn't get a bad deal there dude :)

I concur that said deal wasnt too bad, and that if you build a custom computer, you usually are getting more value for your dollar.

As for Macs, I have noticed that you are typically paying more for less.... The standard seems to be around twice the cost for a pc with equal capabilities judging by store pricing.

Yeah, pretty much. What your paying for when buying a Mac is generally the OS and just the style more than anything. In my opinion style and the feel of the product is far more important than most people give it credit for, which is why I prefer Macs, from a personal stand point :p

I thought as much, however I can hardley stand the mac's "Style and feel" anyways...

Edit: Or apple products in general... Unless they fixed the ipods/iphones ability to play MP3s without having to run them through a program or converting the format.

That deal doesn't sound bad. The specs should do what you wanna do easily. The price seems alright. Doesn't seem like a bargain but doesn't seem as a rip off, just a normal price.

And like that other person before, I recently bought a Macbook Pro too. Cost more than your computer and it isn't as powerful. Although it is a laptop which would increase the price as well but anyway. Really happy with it.

I wouldn't worry about your purchase. It seems just fine to me.
