Of course it makes sense, Black Ops being the elite of the world will want the best equipment they can get, besides weapon prototypes are usually reliable and proven before they even think about allowing any military personal to use it, prototype weapons are not like prototype toasters..RAKtheUndead said:[HEADING=3]This does not make sense.[/HEADING]Thunderhorse31 said:The be-all, end-all answer to your question is this:
It's Black Ops. You're supposed to have access to weaponry that is not mass-produced and technology that wasn't available to the masses.
Again, it's Black Ops. Not Standard Military Issue Ops.
Why, when you're on missions which would require reliable, proven weapons, would you go for a weapon system that is only available as a prototype? There's a reason why the SAS don't use the L85 rifle, instead going for the older AR-15 base for their longarms.
True that. Even if they did know, does it really matter? Oh noes! A fictional game about combat isn't entirely 100% realistically accurate!Zekksta said:Treyarch certainly did their homework, they concluded that the average person who bought their product, wouldn't give a shit.
They sure nailed that truth.
That's a minor error compared to the crossbow, lasers and other high tech gadgets they use. There's also the AK-74u which is named after the year it was produced.Karma168 said:I know what your thinking "another Black Ops bashing post, here we go" and trust me i was tempted (tbh there's a lot to complain about) but this is more about continuity errors than bad design.
In the 1st mission you are supplied as standard with a rifle with an M203 under slung grenade launcher. now i remember seeing a documentary saying that the the US were still using the 'bloop gun (think thumper from MW2) during the vietnam war. a quick check (2 mins) online tells me that the M203 wasn't brought into service until '69. so why can you use it 6 years earlier in game?
as a note the same is true for the GP-25 (russian variant), you can use it in the prison escape mission but the weapon wasn't designed until '66 let alone produced.
seems like treyarch didn't even bother doing the research and just stuck them into the campaign because people like using them in multiplayer.
EDIT: if someone has info proving me wrong id be grateful![]()
wait what? I thought the realism was the allure of CoD that set it apart from much better, less realistic games. If realism doesn't matter why not play something better thats less realistic?Ephraim J. Witchwood said:It's a CoD game, and you're criticising it for not being realistic?
Some prototypes aren't widely used because they are expensive to make and maintain and some because they haven't tested it enough or it performed poorly. Since rifles aren't expensive to produce it has to be the other kind of prototype. Then there is the danger of losing the prototype and handing the enemy free research(big issue during the cold war).Lord Kloo said:Of course it makes sense, Black Ops being the elite of the world will want the best equipment they can get, besides weapon prototypes are usually reliable and proven before they even think about allowing any military personal to use it, prototype weapons are not like prototype toasters..RAKtheUndead said:[HEADING=3]This does not make sense.[/HEADING]Thunderhorse31 said:The be-all, end-all answer to your question is this:

And also the L85 is no where near a prototype its been in service for ages and its common British Army equipment, yes the AR15 is much older but its not as reliable as the L85 which is why the US army has moved to the M4 assault rifle. I think the SAS do use the L85 but they don't because they prefer to use H&K weaponry that has very high reliability rates..
but the prototype would be the superior weaponRAKtheUndead said:[HEADING=3]This does not make sense.[/HEADING]Thunderhorse31 said:The be-all, end-all answer to your question is this:

Yeah because its totally normal and realistic to sit behind cover for a few seconds after having been shot and have your health regenerate.Choppaduel said:wait what? That still doesn't make any sense though. About 50% of the weaponry from a different era and apparently, even the Viet Cong have weapons from the wrong time frame. Heck, in that missions where you find the informant, a Viet Cong soldier walks in with a Spas-12 Shotgun. A gun that wouldn't be invented for another 10 years. You mean to tell me that an untrained guerrilla rebel managed to get his hands on a prototype of a gun that wouldn't be invented for several years?Thunderhorse31 said:The be-all, end-all answer to your question is this:
