i remember in portal after you encounter your first rocket turret there's a hole (slightly to high) to crawl through.

and i think i had to think of something clever. instead i stacked computers and chairs to climb up to it.
That. I did it on all my Portal playthroughs.
I still don't know how you actually are supposed to get through that hole without the loveable Aperture chair. <3
Redirect the rocket so it hits the pipe. A cube will fall out. Use that instead.

Played way too much of Silent Hill Homecoming without using the dodge button correctly. Scarlet kicked my ass so hard.
I doesn't matter if you're playing that game right or not, there's nothing good about the damned dodge button. There is no real way to use it because the whole mechanic is severely broken. Scarlett still kicks my ass to this day. A lot better if you get the secret alien zapper gun, I guess that would be considered playing the game wrong too! :p

i have to say that finding the RIGHT way to go through that hole is a *****....
i mean, it took me for the first time about 2 hours(!) to understand that i could pile the computers to get high enough (im serious... Im pretty damn slow i guess), and i have no idea how the hell am i supposed to think of breaking the tube...

I've been guilty of playing games "wrong" a few times...

Most recently, when I first started playing Fallout 3 last year, I was only firing one shot at a time from VATS because I didn't know that you could queue up multiple shots...

When I just started playing FPS'es I didn't strafe, ever. Also I've played RTSes for a very long time under the impression that one barracks is plenty...

Hey I was like 12.

Com to think of it, i did this exact same thing. You were supposed to make the rocket blow up the tube but i just stacked computers and desk chairs. XD

I remember I played through the first two chapters of final fantasy tactics(beat the first zodiac boss). For the longest time I thought that was the end of the game because I happened to accidentally do the start+select+R1+L1 reset just after a bit of storyline and it went black, then it went back to the opening screen. Played it through again later and was quite surprised to find that no, I hadn't beat the game lol.

Basicly what I did, stacked a bunch of things and tried to climb in the air vent.
Also there was a fan that I tried to stuff with tings till it broke and i could have just shot a portal through it.

Everyone played God Hand wrong at first. Same for Viewtiful Joe. I made it halfway through Ultra-V mode (and then my game kept freezing, causing me to ragequit since it kept freezing about an hour and a half through a level where there was no saving), but I've NEVER seen or heard of anyone who was instantly anything other than rubbish at Viewtiful Joe.

Don't worry, almost everyone I know did that. Except for one friend, who accidently led a missile into the cube-tube. (It's above the door-way that leads you to the room with the hole.)

I think I played Fallout 3 wrong - just couldn't get into it.

And people play HL2 wrong all the time (everyone seems to ***** about it, although it's still PCG's User Number 1 in the Top 100) I think. Especially when they say there's no story. And that Gordon Freeman is boring.

*sigh*

They just don't understand.

I had the most difficult time in the Original Fallout trying to do anything or go anywhere without being slaughtered.

Then I found out about companions and how basically required they are, especially early in the game.

My housemate has a game for his PS3 called Trash Panic...the game is utterly bizarre and we can't for the life of us work out how you are supposed to play it properly and "win" as every level ends with us getting rank E/F.

My brother managed to complete BioShock without ever changing the plasmids you were given during the narrative as he didn't know you could, which was pretty impressive as well.

it seems I'm pretty much the only person who got that first time :D Maybe I'm just a lateral thinker.

I once played Pokémon Ruby without using a single pokémon aside from my torchic/combusken/blaziken. I got my ass kick in the Four, but it was lvl 60.

Every 'engrossing RPG' usually takes an entire playthrough before I figure out how to play it. Oblivion, Fallout 3, Dragon Age... I had to build a character, then go die a ton and suck at playing and then figure out how each game's logic works. Alchemy seems like a totally sweet skill to have. But did you know that if you never use it, you never level up? I didn't!
