Hmm... I don't have a problem with it. The only thing i could comment on is couldnt they get someone better than a prostitute?
Seriously if they'd asked I'm sure they could have found a willing chick who'd have done that for free. It's not that disgusting when you think about it. What sort of things does someone like that do with their time? Spending a lot of time in the hospital for something that's not terminal or life threatening is still a huge nuisance and boring as all hell. I'm sure that by the point the boy was ready to pass on there was a huge list of things he wanted and this was probably the only one he figured he'd get much out of.
Asking to go to Disneyland, see an actor or whatever... that's all well and dandy but to some the whole dying thing means they'll never get to live their life. So why not try out that sex thing every teenager is humping everything in sight over? Let's try to remember what it was like to be that age and what sort of silly things we did in the mere effort to have sex. This is perfectly reasonable methinks.

to be honest i think it was funny and nice that the hospital were thinking of paying for a hooker... If that was what he wanted, then let him go for it. As long as it was definatly consensual then they can't do anything about it. Had he not been unwell i can bet he would have been doing it anyway with some school mate...
