I was having a conversation with a friend and was explaining that Final Fantasy II and III on the SNES in the US is different to the original II and III that were on the NES and it got me thinking, just how many games received different names in different regions, and why?

In the case of Final Fantasy it's simply due to the fact the US never got a NES release of II or III or a SNES release of V, but it's not always this simple.

Like for example, why is Starfox 64 known as Lylat wars in the UK?

Discussion value:What games do you know of with different names in different regions, and why is this?

Indigo Prophecy (NA) and Fahrenheit (EU). It was done to avoid confusion with the movie Fahrenheit 9/11.

Well Resident Evil would be one of them, In the US it's Resident Evil, but in Japan its called Biohazard. Not sure why we changed the name.

Fahrenheit was a stupid name anyway. All the temperatures in game were in Celsius.

Probably to make it sound like more of a horror game, what would scare you more a chemical spill or the chance that your neighbors could one day ghoulify and start eating you?

I really don;t know of any name changes that weren;t already listed in the 3 other posts during the typing of this post.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin on the US, Advance Wars: Dark Conflict in the PAL regions. Not to mention all of the name changes for the characters.
