Until I got glasses, I couldn't read most of the text in current gen console games like Assassin's Creed 2. I think it's more due to my TV that I still have trouble. I haven't checked, maybe there's a way to increase the font size.
I had a similiar problem when I had the PS3, lots of the small text was almost unreadable to me. In Prototype I could NOT tell which button the instructions for each power were indicating because I could not indentify the symbol.

It is because my TV is not so big and is a cheap, old concave (or convex?) screen that was serious pixel troubles with current-gen games.
Yeah the writing is a real headache on SDTVs. Most games haven't made it big enough to be readable on a regular size SDTV. That was the first difference I noticed when I moved to an HDTV. Barely noticed the high-def graphics lol.

Try reading the text in Dead Space with a standard-def TV. Ugh. Luckily I now have an HDTV. I don't know how I survived without it.

If its anything like Dead Rising I know how painful that must've been.

My eyes are pretty weak. Without glasses I don't get details that could be vital in modern games. An enemy in the shadows is easely just a blur to me.
