Difficulty getting addicted

As the thread title may indicate, I've recently been finding trouble getting addicted to playing any game. I've sort of been wandering from game to game aimlessly, spending a couple hours here and a couple hours there and, as a result, I'm not really having as much fun or spending as many hours gaming as I'd like to - I normally end up pointlessly browsing YouTube or something really boring like that.

Anyone got any tips?

I get addicted to a game if it's good, forcing addiction isn't something you can do if you don't enjoy the game.

The first game I ever got properly addicted to was Fallout 3. Long nights wandering the wasteland.

I'm in the exact same position. I'll get a new game that I'm excited about playing, do a couple of hours and not come back to it for a week.

Last time this happened to me was with Pokemon Diamond.
I'm hoping it happens again with Pokemon White.
Otherwise it's official that my lifelong love for video games has died.
Sames happened to music lately..

Hmm... Well, all I could do is recommend you a game. What do you like? Shooter, Survival-horror, Strategy? What console do you have?

I recently got extremely addicted to Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. Of ocurse, my computer is out for repairs at the moment... :(

Also, anyone who is having trouble with bugs or other problems with Stalker can ask, I might know how to fix it. Just saying, I know how hard it was for me to fix it so it worked.

Well, any crackhead will tell you that once snorting isn't cutting it, you need to start injecting it straight into your bloodstream.

I don't know how that translates to video games, exactly, but I'm sure someone will be by shortly to finish the puzzle.

So, what, should I plug my 360's component cables into the back of my head?

Yeah I'm having trouble really losing myself in games lately too. I have a good half-dozen games that I've played for at most a few hours and then haven't played them since. inFamous, Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption, Arkham Asylum, Minecraft, Dawn of War II... maybe even more.

All these games I really want to get into but just can't be bothered. And what's really sad is that I spend most of my time bored out of my mind looking for stuff to do.

That's very common. You can't force yourself to really like and get excited about something.

Just do what you like. Don't feel like your obligated to play the game or anything. But I've got a couple tips as well:

Just open the game when you have time and don't feel frustrated or your attention is bouncing off the walls. I think it works best, the better your mood is and the calmer you are. Sometimes you end up playing the game for hours and gain new interest towards the game.

You can also read/watch about stuff (hype, or positive at least) about the game to get more interest. You might even learn new aspects of it, you hadn't thought of before.

One quite sure way is to spend a lot less time on the PC (or console, if you're one of those). Then when you get back on the platform; just choose the game and stick with it.

I used to be really into video games a while back but now it seems like I am caring less and less about games. For me it's the fact that I am about two months away from graduating high school, and the fact that I am up to my neck in stress about school, college, parents, and jobs. Maybe you are just stressed out recently. Try to call up a buddy and play a co op game, that way you'll have someone to spend time with if the game doesn't cut it for you.

I'm the same way, guess there just haven't been any games awesome enough to completely grab me lately, or at least I haven't played any.

Last one was Mass Effect 1 during Christmas.

People want to become physically addicted to games? What in the world?
Define "physically" addicted.

I don't mean that I want to work up some sort of physical dependency, because that's neither possible nor practical.

Well, snorting the ground-up remains of disks never really worked for me, and led to horrible nosebleeds.

Injecting them only made things worse...

November? But... Portal 2 is already coming out in april!

OT: Had this too, it went past. Just do something else to get you occupied for a while.

You want to get addicted to a game?
Try WoW then. It's subtle at first, getting to know the community and earning your first greens and then BAM! three months later you're a level 85 happily waiting an hour for a tank for your next heroic.

Skyrim, you silly. The entire gaming population is going to retreat into its collective living rooms, and not be seen for weeks :p
