The first one of the series was fairly interesting in terms of story, though the gameplay got a little repetitive by the end of it (you bounce from "dungeon" to "dungeon" without much to break up the pacing). I still enjoyed it quite a bit though, as I have with all things under the Shin Megami Tensei umbrella in recent years. The second one actually got just repetitive enough for me to shelve it, making it the only SMT title that I've played and not finished (barring the re-released Persona 2, which I'm still playing through).

It is. And its an odd one. Highly recommend it to non JRPG gamers (like myself)
I'll look out for it then.

Of course! I've played through Persona 3 twice, the FES content once, and Persona 4 once. Persona 2 is an ongoing playthrough in bits and pieces. If I ever clear enough time on my gaming calendar, I want to finish up a New Game+ run of P4.

It's an excellent game, but be warned: It will hand you your ass on a silver platter until you learn its alien ruleset. (Well, alien if the only RPG you've ever played is Final Fantasy) The story is also top-notch. Just be prepared to buy the sequel. Otherwise you're gonna feel cheated.

Hrm, let me think. It's been almost six months since I finished it. His shadow has two creatures in to assist, right? One uses Heat Riser, which you'll want to remove ASAP using Yosuke's Dekaja skill. What did the other one do? Heal? I think I focused fire on that one exclusively until it went down, taking breaks only to heal and remove buffs from Kanji's shadow. If you leave Heat Riser on him, he'll hit like a truck.

The core game of Persona 3 wasn't too difficult but the FES content was absolutely insane. That had some brutal pseudo-puzzle fights.

In that case, the solution is pretty simple: go do some leveling. While you're doing that, you can see about whipping up some Persona with better abilities suited to bringing Kanji's shadow down. Physical resistance would be a big help, as are any of the tarakunda/rakunda/sukunda debuff skills.

The DDS games are like one story with twice the grind. I liked the extra customization mechanics, which are less punishing compared to SMT Nocturne, but the games really are grindtastic grindfests of grindyness.

The two big hurdles in the games are as follows: First you need to develop an efficient Atma harvesting system, usually by focusing one character specifically on devouring abilities. The other problem is farming enough money to buy the damn abilities.

But they are actually pretty cool games if you can get past all this, just not for everybody. Also like all Atlus games they tend to appreciate in value very well over time.

P.S. Camazotz can eat my nuts. Stupid Aztec bat-god thing.
