So I got a tablet and a painting program (I think it's paintshop pro), and I was wondering if anyone had advice for making pretty pictures, (besides practice, practice, practice). Like wether it's better to use scanned linework, how to make that work, or just tricks you've learned by using tablets. Also, lag in the cursor, what's with that? Thanks in advance!

Ah...practice pract-..oh besides that.

Lag in the cursor? Try messing with the options or sensitivity.

Scanned linework works for details and expressions. I could never really get an expression right with the tablet. Pencil is just more personal and it shows. Use a very thin brush when drawing and a somewhat large resolution and you'll be able to work the details and get a more fluid look. (I use photoshop cs5 for the record). Use low opacity (I use around 20 ~30%). Oh and sometimes large brushes work best because of how the color spreads.

There are probably other, more practical advice that could be given but none come to mind right now. Just don't get dissapointed when things don't look right at first. You'll get the hang of it. Look up some tutorials and try to develop a personal style. It gets easier that way.

Coloring, shades and faces might be of trouble at first but once you learn how to do them in your own way, they'll look great.
