Digital Pop Star Hatsune Miku Will Open Lady Gaga Concerts

Lady Gaga's favorite digital pop star Hatsune Miku will open a part of the Artpop tour.

Hatsune Miku is surprisingly well known for a singer who's all digital. Artist Lady Gaga surprised fans when she announced the opener for a month of shows in her Artpop Tour. Hatsune Miku will be the opener from May 6 to June 3.

Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid - and the most popular of the bunch - with several rhythm games featuring her, such as the Project Diva series. She is one of the specific voice banks as a part of singing voice synthesizer. Users can use the software to create songs by inputting the lyrics and melody.

This won't be the first time Hatsune Miku has performed concerts - even in the U.S - but it is unprecedented for her to be the opening act to an artist well recognized as Lady Gaga.

The following shows in which the virtual pop star will perform include:
May 6 Atlanta, GA @ Philips Arena
May 8 Pittsburgh, PA @ Consol Energy Center
May 10 Uncasville, CT @ Mohegan Sun
May 12 Philadelphia, PA @ Wells Fargo Center
May 13 New York, NY @ Madison Square Garden
May 15 Washington DC @ Verizon Center
May 17 Detroit, MI @ Joe Louis Arena
May 18 Cleveland, OH @ Quicken Loans Arena
May 20 St. Paul, MN @ XCEL Energy Center
May 22 Winnipeg, MB @ MTS Centre
May 25 Calgary, AB @ Scotiabank Saddledome
May 26 Edmonton, AB @ Rexall Place
May 28 Seattle, WA @ Key Arena
May 30 Vancouver, BC @ Rogers Arena
Jun 2 San Diego, CA @ Viejas Arena
Jun 3 San Jose, CA @ SAP Center at San Jose

Lady Gaga also invited the K-Pop group Crayon Pop to open at her Artpop tour from June 26 to July 22.

Huh. Well that's different.
I'm not sure if it's a good different, I haven't listened to that many vocaloid songs, but I doubt Lady Gaga fans are also J-Pop fans.

I dunno, maybe I just have a bad (and biased) mental image of them.

Meh. This is just another sign that Lady Gaga is on his way out of the public sphere whether he likes it or not. I wonder who his replacement female pop commodity will be. Maybe a girl-next-door type as an extreme contrast to Miss Meat Dress and Miley "Wrecking Ball" Cyrus.

I love Vocaloid, but I don't seeing it becoming very popular here in the US on a wide scale. Coupling it with Lady Gaga is probably not going to help things either.

His, his, his? You're aware that Lady Gaga is female, right?

Yea I can't see how Miku will be popular with the general west, especially those who would go to Lady Gaga concerts.

You're aware there is a running joke that Lady Gaga is male, right?

How is this good for anyone? I don't think a lot of people who like Lady Gaga would know about or even understand what Miku is.

She'll at least sing in English, right?

...

Right?

You nearly made me spit out my drink with this post xD
Yeah all this crap is bizarre anyway so why not a digital pop star? It contains all the weirdness to one space under one roof.

Actually no, I was not aware of that. Cheers!

Actually i start to like Gaga more n more. She just does her things and that fine. Sure she's there to make a big fuss about herself but i mean she's a popstar, that's kinda in the job description.

Also yay for Miku, because Miku is awesome and should be way more popular than she already is.

I would've thought that - with all the auto-tuning - Lady Gaga herself would count as a digital pop star?
[sub]Actually, to be fair, I know she did music beforehand and actually has a nice singing voice.[/sub]

Goddammit Lady Gaga, I'm a fan but this is just plain stupid even for you.
Why?

Exactly! It's the 21st century - digital pop stars for everyone!
Miku is nothing more then a corperate brain child by feeding into the stuff Japanese kids like. It's boring, bland, tasteless and quite frankly just plain bad singing.

And people who keep calling Miku "She" just proves you're all bought into the hype over a friggen sound editing program.

No show in Houston :(

I'd have gone to see the opener, then leave, because I don't care about Lady Gaga.

I've been wanting to see the Miku concert since I first watched it on youtube.

Fictional characters can have gender. The pronoun "she" is used to refer to Sleeping Beauty (fairy tale), Ellen Ripley (film), and Diana Prince (comic book), why not a fictional pop singer?

Because it's not a defined character or an actual singer. It's just a voice synthesizing program that was giving a cute anime girl as it's mascot. Nothing more. Miku is nothing but a marketing tool.
