Dirty Dancing Coming To The PC

Codemasters [http://www.codemasters.com]has announced the development of an "action puzzler" game based on the hit movie Dirty Dancing, due to be released by the end of the year.

"Dirty Dancing [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092890/fullcredits#cast] is one of the most beloved movies of all time with millions of dedicated fans across the world," said Codemasters Online Gaming Vice President and General Manager David Solari. "Dirty Dancing - The Video Game will make the perfect Christmas present for fans of the movie, and we are thrilled to be able to bring this much loved film to the video game world."

The game, aimed squarely at the casual gaming market, will feature a series of mini-games based on the hit 1987 official website [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/], players will work alongside the team at the Kellerman resort and earn camp dollars to purchase Dirty Dancing memorabilia, cabin furnishings and the "all-important dance lessons with Johnny and Penny."

Anne Parducci, executive vice president at Dirty Dancing distributor Lionsgate [http://www.lionsgate.com/], said, "For two decades, girls and women have identified with Baby, and through this wonderful game from Codemasters, they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in her world like never before."

The game's release in late 2007 is being timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the movie.

I honestly can't decide if this is an inspired burst of creative brilliance, or the most brain-smashingly stupid idea in the history of gaming.

Maybe, but something tells me that if I see this game on the shelf and it's price cheaply enough, I should pick it up. Not that I'd ever actually install it, but it'd sure be an interesting piece in the collection.

So long as there's a scene where you get to smash the car window with a parking post. I love that part. It's so ... senselessly masculine.
