"Dirty" for being an active OP?

Before you say anything, no, this is not porn related. If it was I would have put dirty in quotations. Which I did... Still not a porn-thread though.

Now, it's really fun to post on these forums and have nice conversations with people in this community (Or hunting for trolls), but I usually just jump around threads while quoting, since it feels kind of spammy to quote every person in one single topic. However, I usually don't find that problem when I am the OP. I've been to a couple forums before this, and usually I can reply to everyone in my thread and have a good time.

However, with the badge system on the Escapist, I can't help myself from feeling like... like a dirty person when replying to others in my thread. It constantly feels like I'm bumping the thread just so that I can get more views/replies, even if that isn't my intention. I usually reply anyway, but I can't shake that dirty feeling.

Have you've ever felt dirty for posting in your own thread? Or do you think that posting what-so-ever is wrong because it counts as bumping? I would really appreciate some opinions on this.

If you ask me, creating a thread and then never having any interaction with it beyond the OP is totally pointless. If you're not going to discuss the subject with the people who post on your thread at all, then what's the real point of creating the thread in the first place?

No, I do it all the time. It lets you get into interesting discussions with people, and you can bump your thread without feeling bad.

I dare you not to respond to this.

Come on, no one else is replying, good way to bump your thread.

Come on..
I WON'T DO IT! I WON'T GIVE IN TO THE DARK SIDE!

.... Fuck. Now I have to take a shower so I can get this dirty sensation away...

Well, usually if you set up a topic, that means you want to start a discussion, so I guess it all gets down to what role do you want to have - take an active part or only be a moderator, stepping in only when the debate gets a bit too hot.

I don't think posting in your own thread is in any way worse than posting in someone else's, as long as you're on topic. So if you've never posted pointlessly in your own topic, then I guess your "dirty" feeling is unjustified.

I don't like taking a too active part in any threads, simply because I don't have time to follow them. By the time I get back to a thread where somebody has quoted me, there are 30 new posts and a good chance that someone has already replied to them. So even in my own threads, I prefer to sit back and see the discussion unraveling on its own and only throwing in my two cents here or there.

Yeah, I kinda know what you mean.

In the rare occasions that I make a thread I try to stay out of it and let other people do the talking.

What is it with all the sex jokes recently? Anyway, we all do it, it's just a conversation with other members.

If you STILL feel dirty, the IRC has got you covered.

If you post meaningful content every time, I say you can post as often as you want. Reply to one and all, make all the threads you want, and if you make sure every post is a good contribution, then you've EARNED those badges you're going to get. Feel no shame! Be free!

I quote if someone disagree's me, Etc. If im directly spoken too, Y'now that sorta stuff.

Or a bit of Self-Moderating (as in telling people fighting in my thread to shut the fuck up before they get it locked)

I need to do at least 2 sex jokes a day or I will become a grown-up who doesn't like video games.

So you can guess that it's almost too hard for me to do. (THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID)

To justify my immature comment: I don't really know why sex jokes are so appealing. I guess that it's kinda funny when you manage to squeeze in a sex joke in a place where it doesn't belong (hence why "that's what she said" is a funny joke imo), or perhaps awkward sex references tend to seem like self depreciation without actually being it. I get that kind of feeling when I see such sex jokes anyway.

Wow. You feel bad for taking part in your own discussion because you're bumping it in the process? That level of modesty is something you very rarely see today.

Same here. I try to stick in a double entendre whereever i can. Double points for joke being a bit more elaborate.

No I do it sometimes, but it's just because I've started a thread of interest to me and I want to make most of peoples opinions.

If I have something to say, I say it. Don't really care about badges, bumps and what have you.
