I just wanted to share with you a peculiar feeling of disappointment that I felt today. I've started competing in UK fencing competitions for foils. And I thought I'd have a cheeky look at national rankings, see if I've managed to accrue any points yet towards getting a good ranking.
So I searched for me on this elabourate spreadsheet downloaded from the British fencing association. And lo and behold, I'm on there. I look at my ranking. 433rd. 433! out of all foilists in the UK!
So I'm well happy in myself then I scroll to the bottom...
Turns out that a good couple of hundred other people are the same rank.
And it's the lowest rank on there.
Sigh. Hopes dashed!
Have you ever had a real disappointment like that? Where you think that something awesome has happened, and turns out you couldn't be more wrong?
