Right, so for a few month now my disc of the game Super Smash Bros. Brawl has not been working. It doesn't spin when I put it in the Wii, however after about 60 tries it will eventually work. I've detected what I think may be a scratch, so I tried the toothpaste thing (without looking up a guide how mind you). So I spread a small amount of toothpaste around the disc and then wiped it down, trying to get as much off as possible. It still didn't work.

So now what? Do I just get a new one? Is there a way to fix it? PLEASE HELP

Just the one game. The Wii is in perfect working order with all other games.

This is why I always get digital copies.
Right... so any suggestions?
Sorry not really. I guess you'd have to buy a new one if it's not too expensive now (don't know much about Wii prices).

Is it just this disc or have you tried with other games? The spinning thing sounds similar to the situation I have with my Xbox, it will take a good half an hour of constant trying to read a disc and it's the console problem.
However washing up liquid on a rag, gently rubbing it into the disk and then wiping it off has worked many times for stubborn disc problems.

...Or you could find a video store near you? They generally have disc cleaners, and it costs you about $1.00.

It's a Nintendo publication. A new copy cost as much today as it did when it was first released. Nintendo publications aren't subject to the pricing degradation of other publishers, for some reason.

Used would be cheaper, though only by five to ten dollars.

I bought a disc skip fixer a couple of years ago. (The one that comes with a tiny crank on the top, and a small spray bottle.) I would go ahead and tell you to use that, but only if the scratch on your disc is minor. It won't work with anything big, or if it has too many scratches.

I've heard that you can take your game to a local Gamestop and they can fix the scratch for you. I can't tell you from experience, I've only heard about it.

If your xbox is having problems with every game it's a laser problem, if you can get a blusher brush or something and just clean the laser through the disc tray you could get it working again, if you have to open the xbox up then use a cotton swab (or a q-tip considering where you're living) with some rubbing alcohol (I used smirnoff vodka ;-;)
Oh I know too well that it's a laser problem, the fucking thing has been driving me mad. I'd have to open it up which is a bit too much hassle for such an old and damaged machine, if it weren't for the fact I'm getting a new Xbox in a few days for my birthday, I'd keep that advice. Thanks anyway. :3

What do you mean by "doesn't spin up?" Do you mean that it just doesn't work, and tells you that the disk is unreadable, or does it physically not spin up?

If it's the first then the scratch could be a factor, or the problem, but if it's the second it has absolutely nothing to do with the disk, but rather the disk drive or the laser reader.

Also, I have to say that the toothpaste method for getting rid of scratches on a disk is not very reliable in my experience. Using car wax gets you much better results.
