YO wife and I are all about this show now, half-way into season 3, and it is wild man. I think they got more budget and I imagine the writer's room is like "ok what kind of f***ed up sh** y'all got today" and they are going nuts lol.

So yeah about that,
Beth drove to Jaime’s house and maced him like, two or three times. Then he started beating the shit out of her, and went to the kitchen while she was down to pour a couple gallons of milk over his eyes. Then as soon as he gets some relief, bam, there’s Beth again to smack him with a golf club or something. They both eventually collapse from the fight where Beth reveals how they sold the land to the reservation, thus spoiling Jaime’s plans to ever develop there. He rushes over to her and starts strangling her and shortly after Rip (who was chasing after Beth upon realizing what she was up to) shows up and throws him off of her. Proceeds to rough him up some before Beth tells him to stop, then she jabs a knife in his chest.
Rip takes Jaime’s corpse off to the dump site in Wyoming. Beth looks like hell which helps her alibi when the detective shows up. They were already suspicious of Jaime being romantically tied to Sarah (the land developer who ordered the hit on John), so she didn't have to do much convincing other than “follow the money”, and “I’m living proof of how far he’s willing to go to keep a secret.”

I’m not sure I get what the appeal of this show is beyond soap opera with more violence.
It’s that with an overarching plot of resistance to commercialized land development for the sake of tourism, punctuated by occasional anecdotes about the perceived environmental costs of losing the fight. It has a few bright spots in between all the fluffy TV melodrama.
Personally, sometimes I'm in the mood for a solid B-grade entertainment- reliable, with some comfy tropes and a great cast. Currently for example that has been the show Bosch.
I also really like westerns and western-themed things, largely for the visuals- open spaced land, horses, mountains, that kind of stuff. It's just pretty to look at- it's the same reason I play and replay AssCreed games despite their many faults. Westerns also have the uniquely American frontier mythology thing that is a deep well of entertainment.
And a little soap opera can be fun. The important part is a little, though, and for sure Yellowstone at some point went too much into that.
Taylor Sheridan is, when he wants to be, a quality story-teller. His film Secario is what established him as a creative force and it's the thing that even Yellowstone and Sheridan-verse haters respect. Winder River was a smaller film that also garnered acclaim.
Obviously one has to have a certain tolerance/affection for the likes of Kevin Costner swaggering about grumbling at coastal douchebags and owning property and 'murica. It's a vibe.
And the cast is pretty solid. I like Costner. The guy that plays the adopted son is the dude that cried at the plastic bag in American Beauty. The daughter is a good/bad character- a typical victim of "man tries to write interesting bad-ass woman and just makes her a broken caricature" but that actress was able to turn it into entertainment gold for the first few seasons until Sheridan just tripped over his dick too much to overpower even her formidable skills.
In short, it's a good-bad show. Like... I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't already primed to find gleeful entertainment out of a western-y soap opera with confused vaguely conservative politics.
I watched Whiskey on the Rocks.
The premise is very loosely based on real events where a Soviet submarine in 1981 ended up aground not far from a Swedish naval base. We get to see how various actors react in this scenario (the submarine captain, the prime ministers of Sweden and the Soviet Union, briefly the U.S. President, the chief of the Swedish armed forces, the Soviet ambassador in Stockholm, etc.) where nobody wants to lose their face in the event of a major power having encroached on small power's territory, where the offended obviously wants to mark against the offender, while at the same time not do it bad enough to offend to bigger power, and the bigger power does not want to appear weak or like they screwed up. It is basically a political satire, it reminded me of The Death of Stalin in its presentation and subject matter. After a while I realized that the basic underpinning of the whole scenario, and the basic joke, is that nobody in the series is good at their job. At least in the first episodes, but after a while they started displaying basic competency which neither fuelled good drama, good comedy nor good satire, it was just there to move the scenario along. It also felt too long at six episodes; they could've easily streamlined it to three episodes.

Shrinking season 2 and Man on the Inside season 1
Just like what is going on with critically acclaimed comedies that are dramas? I like these shows and yes there are good jokes but we made the mistake of watching these finales on the same night and it was all death/suicide/loneliness/depression etc.

Well, they really ratcheted up the "what-the-fuckery" for this season. I already knew the creatures were evil, but damn, they're the kind of evil that enjoys being evil, relishes in the suffering of others, and are capable of the kind of mental games that go beyond cruel. I was made very uncomfortable on many occasions. And now, I just have to live with what I've seen for another two years and season 4.

Yes, it is. Stellar, premise, stellar cast, stellar acting; I truly can't recommend it enough, but sadly, of those I know personally, only two others have watched it. I think it's because it's on MGM+, which isn't generally one of the "big" streaming services most people have these days. If this was on Netflix, I'm sure it'd be killing it in the popularity contest, the show is that good.
I finished Lupin the 3rd: Part 4. That was a great time. This anime went places I wasn't expecting. Da Vinci being the final villain and end boss with a Xenoheart assimilation plot some how works for Lupin. Helps, there was an episode putting out the hint without spoiling. I'll hold off on the other parts for now, because I really only wanted to see The Italian Adventure.

The latest Taylor Sheridan joint, trading in the cattle industry of Yellowstone for oil. Billy Bob Thornton was foremost in the creator’s mind for the key role according to the IMDb trivia, and that’s because he delivers. Like Yellowstone it has a bit of that hokey TV feel, but after one episode there’s only one instance of it that feels forced to yield a dramatic close.
John Hamm and Demi Moore also star, and for more trivia apparently each for the first time portraying a couple of characters that actually liked each other. We’ll see how that goes. The meat of the drama has just enough setup so far and the choice of subject matter gives it a good dose of real world implications which should prove interesting.

More like Season 2 Part 1. The creator got pressured into more Squid Game, and then the season got split in two by Netflix. The "season finale" is merely a random episode from the middle that ignores all the b-plots and barely counts as payoff.
The show is designed around frustrating the viewer, to my taste. It hinges on the protagonist not being very clever, and the viewer (and every adversary) knowing more than he does. He doesn't know that his man on the outside is unreliable and related to the big bad, or that his buddy on the inside is actively sabotaging him. So you end up playing the waiting game: when is this dude gonna catch up to all the things I already know about his predicament? The surprise factor is gone.
