Well, today I found out rather shocking news. Two years back, my now ex girlfriend's brother was diagnosed with dyskeratosis congenita. I hadn't really known her back then, but I had tried to be a supportive classmate. Today, in Modern Social Studies, we had to find out if there are any news articles about any of our family members, and she brought in the Enterprise article about her brother.[footnote]If you live in Massachusetts, I won't be too surprised if you've seen an article similar to this http://www.enterprisenews.com/news/x625395257/Holbrook-boy-8-needs-a-bone-marrow-transplant[/footnote] It mentioned that she also carries it, and despite being the perfect match for her brother, she wasn't allowed to donate. After school, she came up to me and told me how at one point in our relationship when we had seriously talked about having a kid together (mind you, we had planned for it to be much later, we, along with our entire class, expected to be together all through school), she had realized that it was a surefire chance that the child would have some sort of bone issue (my family carries a gene that causes bones to not develop to the proper size/strength).
