Ok all you grind-happy gamers, who's up for some news on the best of the best in it's category?! Disgaea 4 has been announced, complete with a lovely trailer.

There's not much known yet, but there's plenty of new features showcased in the video. Some of the highlights are:

-Giant weapons
-Giant/combined enemies
-Dual wielding
-HD Sprites
-New tower mechanics
-Some form of online play

Just to point out how amazing the difference is between HD sprites and the normal sprites that have been in all the other games, here's a comparison picture:

The most worrying party of the game, for me at least, is the damage formulas. The formulas in D3 were horrible, rendered defense worthless, and made 1-hit kills far too common from enemies that are far too weak. I can only hope they fixed it to be more balanced and overall more fun.

Man I really want to play any Disgaea game...

I don't own a PS3 or PSP though.
Do you own a PS2? Disgaea 1 and 2 are on that, though I'd consider the PSP versions of those games superior solely based on the amount of extra content on 'em.

The general consensus on the Disgaea games are:
-Disgaea 1 has the best, most hilarious story.
-Disgaea 2, especially on the PSP, has the best gameplay.
-Disgaea 3, while it returns to the charm of Disgaea 1, kills the gameplay with its' damage formulas.

Here's to hoping D4 fixes those formulas to make it the best installment thus far.

I have a PS2 that may or may not work properly... and I mostly want to play Disgaea 1.

I'd like to see it go multiplatform but that seems unlikely to happen.

You should be able to find D1 online, though I'm not so sure if you'll be able to find it in stores.

Yeah, NIS isn't likely to put the game anywhere else. I don't think Disgaea is a fitting game for the other consoles, either. They have put Disgaea 1 on the DS, actually, so that's another route you can take. I've heard it to be a little inferior, though. You should research it on your own to make sure.

From what I've found after 3 minutes on Google is that the DS version is identical except for no Japanese soundtrack and a slightly smaller screen.

Well I'm sold... if I see the DS version I'll pick it up.

Ahh, that's not too bad then. I think the DS version actually has a few extras, like I know you can use Plenair in it while you can't in the PSP version.

In any case, wonderful. I hope you enjoy it.
