So it came out recently that Dishonored will feature various in game extras based on where you buy the game (as in IRL).

Surprised I didn't see a post here on it yet, but what do people think about this?

My thought is I'll get it on Steam if possible, exclusives be damned. I'll play it on Normal and eventually Hard mode; the only thing that would upset me would be if it were markedly harder without exclusives.

What's Amazon getting? Probably get it from there regardless but it's nice to know.

Oh man I hate shop exclusives. Please stop this nonsense! This is a game I want to pre-order and you're making this decision difficult and for no good reason at all. Well, I have already pre-ordered this but now I have to cancel it and think again. Damn...

It's a confusing bunch of exclusives, here's Rock, paper shotgun [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/07/27/dishonoreds-dishonourable-pre-order-rat-trap/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&u] they explain them all. I have no idea how to decide from this mess which is the bonus I want...

Amazon sounds like the best from all of that. Cool beans, thanks.

But yeah, this is a massive clusterfuck. Hopefully they patch in this other stuff post release, it would suck to go without, and I'll be damned if I'm buying a full price game more than once.

Gone are the days that you could go to any store and buy a game and get the full experience. Now we have to either buy the game 5 times or deal with it. We can't even protest because people are just gonna buy it anyway.

Yes, they better make all this available later. Surely they cannot be so cruel as to make these actual exclusives. And like they said on that RPS article, how am I to know how I want to play the game before I'm actually playing it?

I'm drawn towards Game/Gamestop as I could then absorb white mice for mana. I have watched some trailers and gameplay videos so I know you need mana to do cool shit in game. Like in that daring escapes video, where they demonstrate 'chain posses'. That is something I desperately want to do. Also, it sound lovely that albino mice are not hostile. But Amazon has some other cool things. Damn this makes me sad.

Can I play it without any of that? Most of the bonuses seem to be based around making the game easier in some such a way. I'd rather have the tough experience in a game like this.

You could always not install the DLC.

OT: I'll go with Amazon, if you can add it on Steam.
You can, right?
[small]Right?[/small]
I'll probably end up buying it second-hand on the cheap so I doubt I'll get a working code anyway.

I got one once with a pre-owned copy of LA Noire though. That was pretty sweet and unexpected.

Damn you and your misleading titles! I thought we were discussing exclusives we don't like!

You can set any .exe to launch from Steam if you so desire. It probably won't be official unless it's Steamworks though.

Just wait untill the GOTY edition comes out, that would work unless you're impatiant.

Yes that is also an option, though you shouldn't have to wait for a GOTY or Ultimate edition to play a game to it's fullest.

That's not really a solution to the problem. That's not even a temporary fix.
Having to wait almost a year after release to be able to get the full experience is just plain stupid.

But as Ed130 said, you can't even protest when people are going to buy it (even if it killed their parents).

Stormz said that but he is right. Waiting for a 'complete' game can be difficult.

That said GOTY editions when they do come out (often combined with Steam sales) make me a very happy gamer.

I don't understand the reasoning behind this kind of thing. All the bonuses are in theory equal, so who does this benefit? Do the shops get to pick which pack they get, and if so who picks first? Are the savvy enough about gaming to tell the devs what kind of bonuses they want, or do they just cross their fingers and hope they end up with the best bonuses?
