Disney Debuts Live-Action Cinderella

I will be gently astonished if any of the folks who've commented thus far are part of the film's target demographic. Not that I'm trying to hush anyone up - deconstructing children's movies can be fun. Based on what I saw in this trailer, though, I think maybe it's just being played straight.

Which, you know. Boring. But ok for kids movies IMHO.

My favourite live action Cinderella was the 1997 version.

It stars Brandy, Whitney Houston, Paolo Montalban, Bernadette Peters, Whoopi Goldberg, Victor Garber and Jason Alexander.

If there was any Disney film badly in need of the Maleficent treatment it was Cinderella. The original is just a load of nothing that happens to look very beautiful (and really, it does). There's no need to update if you're going to stay faithful, especially since you don't improve on visuals when you're live-action rather than 2D drawings.
