Wait a moment. Why is Ariel not a Bard? Don't get me wrong I think she can work red mage too, but Bard makes more sense to me. She did give up her voice at one point.
A valid point seeing as she was the most musical of the princesses. Honestly I remember most of her musical numbers. That being said; the Bard outfit isn't that much to behold other than the puffy hat and shirt. Red Mage looks better. On another note anyone think it odd that Aurora is a Black Mage? Pretty cool. Why is Tiana a Lancer and not Dragoon? I thought that was what the spear class that jumps was called. Snow White could have Poisona that apple, or better yet cast Reraise on herself before eating that apple. Very cool pictures. Makes me want to play some FF (any)
With Ariel the artist could have been trying to get really meta with it.
It was officially revealed not too long ago that Alyssa Milano was the inspiration for The Little Mermaid, even if she didn't know this originally:

Something I've mentioned before in connection to a few minor things here and there.
At any rate Alyssa Milano is known in fandom for playing the witch Phoebe Halliwell for... well, a long time (8 seasons I believe) and as someone pointed out Ariel is portrayed as something of a magic user in the Kingdom Hearts games (I haven't played them much, but apparently she throws lightning). In charmed Phoebe was also the martially talented sister for most of the run, attacking demons with levitating jump kicks and stuff since she didn't have any overtly offensive magical talents that didn't require preparation (preparing a spell through verse, a potion, or whatever). I'm guessing that having Ariel as some kind of spell caster might have felt right, and if the person doing the art stopped to think of Alyssa Milano and her role as a spellcaster, Red Mage which is also martially oriented (well to an extent) makes a degree of sense. People suspected Alyssa was the inspiration for the character as some articles pointed out, but the confirmation is fairly recent.
You'd have to ask the artist of course how much thought went into it of course, but as I said if you want to think in a really "meta" fashion about that particular princess outside of "The Little Mermaid" itself, it makes a certain amount of sense.
To be honest the one that sort of got me was Jasmine as a summoner, largely because she doesn't actually command the Genie, Aladdin does (for a time). Jasmine's primary talents, albeit mostly defined via the animated TV series, rely mostly in using a whip and acrobatics. She also has a pet tiger. I suppose if I was doing it, I probably would have made her the beast tamer (which can use a whip in some of the FF games) especially seeing as she actually has an animal companion. While it's clever to make Belle a "beast master" due to having the beast, he's not really an animal or monster in a true sense, truthfully I would have made her a sage since being an inverted and somewhat oblivious
bookworm was her primary defining personality trait before the whole magic castle thing.

Also just because I feel someone had to say it... what criteria is Disney using to define "Princess" nowadays anyway. A few of the Disney girls here conceptually don't have a drop of royal blood anywhere in their backround.
One day someone should do a parody based on that, seems like it could be the subject of a "Robot Chicken" episode with Disney Princess figures, with the actual princesses getting all snobbish about bloodlines and demanding their agents speak with Disney marketing due to forcing them to socialize with "commoners". For a finale maybe The Beast could eat all the royal brats for making Belle cry.
