So, I happened to see another link to the new Peter Jackson movie District 9 (which looks fantastic!), and checked to see when the release date was - August 14th, said Wikipedia, and my heart jumped for joy, and I popped onto google to look for which cinemas would be showing it - but then, to my shock and anger, it turns out Wikipedia was being Americo-centric again, and the UK release date is September 4th :(

So, firstly, what do people think of District 9? (for those who didn't see the trailer, its a sci-fi movie set on Earth - YouTube search for the trailer)

Secondly, why on Earth is their such a delay between the UK and US release dates? Its 2+ weeks! If the movie companies want to reduce piracy, why on Earth allow piracy to occur by seperating the dates so much; 1, 2, 3 ish days, I could understand, but 2+ weeks?

EDIT: A reminder of the trailer that was shown on a news link here on the Escapist:

It's not going to kill anybody if they have to wait a little to see the movie. Two weeks is not a long amount of time, people.

And I think that it looks interesting. I might go to see it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZnpzfcMheA <- That's the link to the trailer.

I think it looks good, but I don't understand where Peter Jackson comes into it.

It'll cripple sales of movie and DVD sales, I can pretty much promise that - it'll be pirated inside of a week - and further still, WHY is there a delay between the 2? There should be no reason, its not like a major movie can suddenly appear out of no-where and surprise the publishers in Europe and the UK.

I'm definitely going to go see this in four days, by hook or by crook. This is the one film that I've been most excited about seeing this year, and if anyone spoils anything for me I will punch you in the soul.

thats like saying "why does Australia get games 4 months after their release?" its just the natural order of the universe, or it could be for editing and audience testing due to regional differences, you know, because the UK and the US have different movie laws and rights........
Ah, to be fair, the Australian government is anti-gamer. The BBFC (British Board of Film Certifaction) are pretty open minded about stuff, and a movie like this is more than likely to get through without a problem.

And further, its already passed the BBFC: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/ClassifiedWorks/F9985C55DE434886802575FA004E8A74 (Rated 15 without any cuts)

This is exactly what I was worried about. I'm moving to the States from the UK at the very end of August. If it's finished it's run by then I'll be mental.
