Unless your Noah from the spoony experiment you might want to give credit to him for that post your pretty much taking it word for wordCode Monkey said:I remember something else that would have been good to see in the documentary approach, and a very good reason the prawns would be met with widespread hostility: religion.
The presence of extraterrestrial life is heretical to many forms of organized religion, who believe that God created Man in His own image. There?s nothing in those books about God creating prawns on the seventh day, and knowledge of their existence would cause global theological disillusionment, sending hundreds of millions into a crisis of faith never before imagined. Some might reform their religious texts, be progressive about the whole thing, but by and large, the prawns? arrival is the death of God. No longer is Earth the favored planet, Man the chosen life form. Suddenly we?re shown to be inferior to a pack of bipedal roaches. You?d have mass suicides, wars, civil unrest manifesting in hate crime on an unprecedented scale. Millennial cults would spring up like weeds, fearing the appearance of these ?demonic-looking? creatures as a sure sign of the end-times.
Now that?d be a documentary.
I thought it was fitting. What would you be saying if you were getting shot at, had an alien arm all the sudden, etc.Godavari said:The action sequences, especially with the Exo-armor, were some of the best I've seen in the film. D9 managed to convey a good plot and emotional intensity, as well as intense action, in a seamlessly interwoven fabric of pure amazing.
My only criticism: I know it's trying to be real and all, but could they have eased up on saying "fuck" so much? I'd settle for 40% instead of the 60% of the dialogue.
Director Neil Blomkamp stated that he would leave the sequel door open if the movie did well, which it did. I wouldn't mind it if it was a continuation of the District 9 story and plot rather than a new situation.Curtmiester said:The one thing I really like (and hasn't already been said) is that at the end they stated that there was a District 10. This means we won't get any shitty hyped-up sequel. Smart move.
I hope...
TBH, I would probably cuss the hell out of those government sons-of-a-*****. I'm just saying that because it was my first in-theatre "R" rated movie and my dad had to come along. Can you say "awkward"?ianrocks6495 said:I thought it was fitting. Your friend don't know what they're talking about. This tops my list; just over-taking A Clockwork Orange.Paladin426 said:I liked the movie, especially toward the end. The big air-blast gun was freakin cool.
My friends said that they were disapointed and didn't like it.
Ha! Same here. Dad facepalmed at me after seeing the pic of Wikus supposedly have sex with an alien. But then he saw the rest of the movie and forgave me. lol.Godavari said:TBH, I would probably cuss the hell out of those government sons-of-a-*****. In other words, I'd be totally fine with "fuck" making up 60% of the dialogue if the stupid US of A didn't force me to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
I think you quoted the wrong person, friend.zeldakong64 said:I've thought that a while about alien movies, but I didn't go nearly as far (or as well) as you did. Very nice.orannis62 said:[snip] religion.
In my opinion, I thought it was covering both its bases. On the one hand, they have district 10 all set up with the idea that the alien that escaped plans to return to Earth. On the other hand, there's a nice little bow on everything now that the dude has accepted his fate and a new encampment has been set up, there's also a semi-open ending to keep you thinking, but not so open it feels incomplete. I think that they probably made the ending this way so that they could set up a sequel if the movie did well, or just end the IP if it didn't do well or they didn't want to continue it. In short, I think they purposely kept their options open. To quote Curtmiester: smart move.Curtmiester said:The one thing I really like (and hasn't already been said) is that at the end they stated that there was a District 10. Being fair, it took some well aimed .50 Cal rounds to take it down, it completely ignored everything else, but still, you're right.GrandAm said:Because of the faux doc style and the main character kind of looked and acted like him...It felt like I was watching a really wierd episode of The Office with Steve Correl.
The Mech suit. That was probably the best movie take on the Mech suit concept I have ever seen. It was not indestrucible and actually through combat shut down from damage. The damage was progressive and weapon dependent. Usually when a Mech is use in Movies they take no damage and get shut down for some of the wall reason. Iron man is a good example, his suit ran out of power. In the third Matrix, it was because the drivers bodies are exposed. But the Mech itself never got hurt/shut down.
30 million if I remember correctly.HokutanZ said:The Movie was really good and i believe the director had a considerably smaller budget than most films correct me if i'm wrong.
