Disturbing dream

Any of you guys help me with a dream... well, nightmare, I had?

It starts with me standing in my front room, talking to my sister, I'm talking like a video game bad guy, say shooting someone is the merciful thing to do and then I run around the room looking for "my gun" and we struggle for the gun, I get the gun, shoot her and she's like "YAAAAAAAAAAAY" and I shoot her again and the nightmare ends.

It's seriously freaky. I don't even know why I'd have a nightmare like that...
But I've been playing a lot of Mass Effect recently, so, possibly, it's something about morality and the hypocrisy of being a good guy and shooting people and it being seen as "good", or something...

Anyone?

Well your dreams are a lot more deep than mine. Mine usually just involve nakedness...

Do you and your sister get on well? Could be something to do with that.

We don't really interact with each other too much... could be my mind's way of saying we're as far apart from properly knowing each other as the main character from a video game is from knowing the basic enemies he fights.

There's no negativity, though.

Sounds like a normal dream. Most of them don't make any sense.
It's good to know I'm not the only one who gets nonsense springing up in my head.

Thanks.

Or your mind's way of telling you that you think of life in videogame terms too much! I kid, we all do it. Dreams can be pretty revealing about how you actually feel though, maybe get to know your sister a bit better. Worth a shot.

It might be a load of bollocks, but from what I've heard dreams are secret desires/wishes, whereas nightmares are based on real life.

It could be buried resentment at your sister for something she done.

But then again, like most dreams, it can be rubbish.

After all, I had a dream about massacring my school, and I'm not crazy.
I suppose, I still find it kinda disturbing even if I know it's nonsense.
I'm sure it'll pass eventually and I'll never think about it again.

Well, the problem is both of us aren't social people, but yeah, I'm pretty video game based and not too social, so that's probably it.

I really didn't like having that image in my head, though... but, I suppose me not liking it is the positive part.

Dreams don't mean anything, they're simply a way for the mind to clear itself after being used and stressed for so long. Most likely they're just a random collection of thoughts caused by random nuerons firing and they often have something to do with events in your life, like your sister as you think about her because she's related to you. Don't read too much into this, it's just a dream and should be treated as such.

That's a reassuring response, I appreciate it, thanks.

It's just a dream!. I'd ask what you had for dinner but that's a load of bollocks anyway. Personally, I wouldn't think much of it. It's just neural chemical activity occurring during REM sleep, there is nothing to say it's a foreshadowing of events to come or repressed desires. Tons of people have weird, lucid and disturbing dreams and they are just that..dreams. You could chose to think it's your subconscious telling you something or you could just slap some cold water on your face and get back to living.

If it's something that happens on a daily basis or you are really losing some sleep over these "dreams" then maybe a stop at a councilor or psychologist might help. On the other hand, if this is just a one-time occurrence then relax, take a break.

Then it was just a random dream that you perceived to be scary. Unless you really do have a subconscious feeling to gundown your sister.

Also, You should have an ice cream. Usually helps :D

Dreams dont' make sense. They hussle together all kinds of experiences you've had; including those in games. Sometimes the combination can be quite freaky.

I had a dream once in which I was supposed to protect a planet from, let's call them the Empire, with some kind of forcefield (I had crazy powers; and this was before I was even into video games and shit, so how this polluted my mind I'll never know), but in the end it turned out that everything I had ever done to save that planet was all already in the Empire's plan and I was just a cog in their grand scheme.
In the end I lost my mind or believed the Empire was right or something and blew up the entire planet. I woke up sad and freaked out.

My point is; dreams don't make sense, somtimes in a happy way, sometimes in a scary way.

Everyone has dreams, but not everyone remembers them. This is probably true in your case. There is an entire field of science dedicated to studying sleep called Oneirology where they study REM sleep and dreams. I'm pretty sure that they stated that everyone dreams or at least that it is the accepted scientific belief. So unless you are HAL 9000 you are dreaming too.

It means you're playing your game too close to your bedtime and your brain hasn't had a chance to shut down properly from all the input. Little kids have this same problem of nightmares and 'seeing ghosts' whenever they had a large amount of input before sleeping. Next time, stop playing your game a little sooner, and wait about an hour before sleeping.

As far as you shooting your sister goes... well, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
