Disturbing Heavy metal Covers

Ok, Time for a rant...
What is it with heavy metal bands, feeling the need to put the most goriest, unneeded album covers ever. I Was in a local FYE, and i found this...

not sure what the f*ck to classify that...
Now, I love Heavy metal, yes, I love the darkest, heaviest sh*t ever. BUT, what i hate are the bands who do that. Or try being More metal by having song titles like, "Shotgun abortion with babies eyes in my mouth" or "Fornicating your Uterus with your fathers hatchet" Seriously dude... is that sh*t nessecary? You can be dark and heavy without being FRICKING PSYCHO! Black Sabbath could do it, Iron Maiden could do it, Megadeth could do it, why can other bands?

Cannibal Corpses' album covers are hilariously bad.

But I think with metal music, it is best to have a sense of humour. Don't worry about crappy cover art so much.

Its not so much that that im offended by it. I just think that the reason why metal is seen as "disturbing" or "violent" is that the bands who are to the most extreme in distatste seem to get the media attention. I mean, I love metal, but... How can you defend that? I mean, As much as i lvoe metal, you cant defend a song like "I cum Blood"

I think they're a bit over the top, I recently bought Youthanasia and although it's not gory it's kind of crazy, when I go in to buy something I don't want to get a funny look because of the album art.

Now, youthinasia isnt that bad, i laughed. but one album I saw was for some kind of local band, and it was a picture of a girl being raped and torn apart by some tentacle demon...

Now... thats why people think metal heads are homocidal...

I thought this was going to be a thread about metal covers of popular songs. Also I wouldnt describe Iron Maiden as "the darkest, heaviest sh*t ever".

As for the album cover, it's DEATH metal and the cover art conveys this, it says "if you like Britney Spears you will not like this". That's my take on it anyway.

Agreed - the Parental Advisory sticker isn't neccessary here...

And any Cannibal Corpse cover is seriously screwed up (except maybe their latest one...) but what do you expect with a name like that and songs with titles such as 'Hammer Smashed Face' and 'I Will Kill You'?
It's best to take all death metal with a sense of humour, otherwise it'd all offend.

I think you may have misunderstood the title of this thread. It's not about Disturbed, it's about disturbing/horrific/brutal album covers.

If you didn't misunderstand then please tell me where Disturbed fit into this discussion, as you said their album covers aren't like the above so why mention them?

Mabye not in a "EWW" disturbing sense, or even a kind of "Holy Fuck!" way, but try and argue that it doesnt at least rub in you in the slightest wrong way.

Makes me shudder. By the way, I'm aware that many hardcore metal fans don't classify Atreyu as metal. I'm not entirely sure why though, I can't think of anything else to classify them as. But in any case, don't send any "Atreyu aren't metal!" or "They suck!" type messages. They will simply be ignored.

EDIT: Also, if you're not into violence, you probably shouldn't be listening to metal in the first place. Unless you're into that Christian Metal stuff. Now that's just weird.
