I am thinking about picking this game up on Steam..
I read a little on it, and it seems interesting enough.

Can anyone give me a little more personal insight on it?

What are the flaws of the game?
The good parts?

How is the magic system?

Is the story boring, and bland?

It's alright. Although not really an open world game I found the settings a fair bit of fun to explore with various hidden treasures and treats hidden everywhere to be found. Combat is... alright. Wouldn't say it's great, but I generally found myself having fun. Fairly well designed as well, with multiple ways to approach most situation and some fun dungeons to plunder. Lots of optional stuff as well. Good diversity with character builds with a good number of talents and skills to choose from and upgrade over time.

Otherwise there are a decent variety of dialogue options and the game doesn't take itself very seriously, which isn't bad. Often things come across as intentionally corny and very tongue-in-cheek which got at least a few chuckles from me. There's crafting of various sorts and later in the game a bit of management with a 'home' you take control over that can be upgraded and such.

Pretty good looking game too, given it's a couple years old now. Soundtrack is nice. Voice acting is mixed however.

Downsides? While the story isn't necessarily bad, the main protagonist is a faceless entity. Not literally faceless, but there's no real personality to your character, which is a shame because the story given a real character to play as could have been a lot more fun. Predictable, but fun. As it is I found it really hard to care about the story because there are no interesting characters to back it. I don't care about my character story-wise, I don't care about any of the NPC. It's kinda lifeless. A little chuckle from some entertaining dialogue is about the best I could hope for from this games NPC.

Like I said before combat isn't bad either, but it's not great either. Just sort of... functional I guess.

Later in the game Divinity 2 mixes it up some by adding a major new mechanic, which is pretty neat, but also introduces some things that will kill you in one hit that aren't very well explained. Actually in general the game doesn't explain itself that well, often leaving it up to the player to figure everything out which can be frustrating at times...

Personally I never beat the game, but I don't regret having bought it either. Can certainly think of better games, among them the first divinity game; Divine Divinity, which was a damned good Diablo style hack & slash. Meanwhile the Gothic series does open world's much better and Arx Fatalis has better dungeon crawling.

Still, can think of much worse too. I know, not the most glowing recommendation. But for what it's worth I had fun with the game.

Its? alright. It has a lot of humour, hidden things to find and combat is adequate. To be honest I got bored and gave up long before beating it and only really continued as long as I did because I wanted to be a dragon. :p
I didn't get the whole story so I don't know if it was any good. From I did play it was like the combat, adequate but not really anything particularly interesting.

I picked up the original cut so I'm going off of that; from what I've heard they improved a few things for the Dev's cut but I'm not totally sure but yeah I can't really recommend this game. The Madman has the gist of it. It's forgettably average. Even when they add the 'turn into a dragon and shoot stuff' game play it just comes off as a shitty air combat game. If you're looking for a third person action adventure game I'd recommend Dragon's Dogma. I'd even recommend Fable 2&3 over this game, at least those games tried new things.

Edit: Yeah I didn't get anywhere close to beating it. Just got really bored with it.

Developers cut would be the one with all expansions and content?

Then it is a must see game, it surely wasn't for the starting full price because it is a rather cheaply made thing but at $30 or less it is a gem of an adventure.
The overall story is rather odd but the added snippets from all sorts of people in side quests make it a hoot, world is hub based with large areas to explore/fly around, plus some flying dungeon dimensions, but the combat is clunky and takes a lot of getting used to (essentially every time you attack the character stops moving).

It's quite funny and enjoyable while it lasts but ultimately forgettable.

It's cheaper on GOG than Steam (at least it is here in the UK) so I'd buy it from there. It can be added to your Steam library if you really want the community features.

I found it to be quite fun, but don't be put off if you find it a bit hard when you start. I don't know about anyone else, but until I'd trained a bit, the first part of the games was the hardest.

It's reasonably fun, but it looks and feels really low budget and it's full of crappy design decisions. The dragon combat is just plain shit also. The enjoyment you get from it is similar to what you get from a "so bad it's kinda good" B movie.
