Capcom seems to be really scraping the barrel of the devil may cry series right now, and they never seem to know what's happening within Dante's life. They have shown trailers of which Dante claims his name to be dante, and he is in his teens, although in the book of devil may cry, Dante is called 'Tony Redgrave' up until the end of the novel, which is set around when Dante is about 30 (Tony is also shown in the anime where on ebony and ivory it states 'for Tony Redgrave'), and to top it off they've gave him a different haircut.. All in all, it seems Capcom havent really gave the series a chance, they just want to keep changing whats going on to try and make the series more interesting, and in turn, more confusing...

This made me wonder, is there any game series you can think of that has faults in its continuity other than devil may cry?

xD Welcome to almost any large gaming franchise. Resident Evil is one of my favorite games, as well as Silent Hill, however both have their continuity issues. Resident evil has no many different novels, comics, tv series, shows and the such that dont always coincide with what is going on. It happens to many large series in the making and is not abnormal at all.

DmC is just a Devil May Cry fan fic by Ninja Theory green-lighted by Capcom. Its not the same universe, Dante is now half demon and half angel, the asinine political statement, and not to mention the resemblance to the creative director.

As for games with continuity problems I would have to say the Metal Gear Solid series, its especially obvious in MGS4 that a lot of the plot points weren't meant to be resolved.

It's Devil May Cry.

It ain't exactly high up on my list of 'games I buy for the deep plot and character development'.

I just like to be Stylish.

It's a reboot or almost completely irrelevant to the original series. So yes, it may be confusing if you attempt to relate the original series to this version.

It feels like they're just making it up as they go along. Reboot, then prequel, then re-imagining, then alternate universe. Oh, now he's half angel and half demon. Oh, now Dante's middle name is Bruce and his favourite food is spaghetti.

I just feel like gaming franchises just work for about 3 games (sticking with the DMC example) and then just become exploited, it's sickening... I know it's a spin off made my ninja theory but they could've atleast made an attempt to keep some realism rather than just working from a new vision and rebooting. I actually like all the DMC games and have played them all (although I had to find willpower from somewhere to be able to finish 4) but continuity annoys me, in both films and games alike... I feel like the whole world is going mad. The only series I have actually respected from the start has to be final fantasy. Games deserve more respect as an art form rather than being rebooted and changed to however anybody wants it to be, you wouldn't go into the Tate modern and draw something and label it as a Picasso because it looks like how you think Picasso's work should look like that, so why create a fan fiction of something that has nothing to do with that something but the same named front man and the same title.

The world is crazy.

They may be taking more liberties than a professional go player when it comes to the universe, but they look to have got Dante's swagger right on the money. I'm happy.
