Do fans ruin everything?

I promptly fake-laughed, finished eating, went back to my room and cried.

i have moments like that with not-so-savvy people all the time. i know what you mean... and i would totally agree. i had the same experience with the half-life series. people talked about it like it was God and hyped it up for me so much that when i finally played it, i was kindof disappointed.

however, i agree only to the extent that fans can only ruin something for you if you haven't played it. you should be allowed to get to like something on your own. people telling you something is great is never going to make the experience better for you.

edit: i would like to note that i enjoyed the half-life series. But BUT it wasn't handed down by the gods of olympus.

I believe so, hell look what happened to The Chasers, i stopped watching half way threw season 2 because they got to popular and started to try more controversy things and it lost the "charm" of its original season

Seeing as I have the miraculous superpower of "ignoring people," I have to say I don't have a problem with fans.

Sounds like it's your own self who is responsible for dispair. How about you just not care about others opinions. True freedom is when you are no longer burdened by the thoughts of others.
