I think you're onto something there. I think it's got a lot to do with the mainstream acceptance of games, and how it's no longer an all-nerds club.
Back in the day, gaming was the thing of geeks and nerds. And they thoroughly owned it. For some it was the only thing that gave them any form of 'elitism', for a lack of a better word. Now, some people just can't handle that it's not the exclusive club it once was. So they decry games that become easier, they resist letting outsiders 'into the circle'. They hate that they have to share their toys.
So they act superior. They treat anyone who doesn't play the arbitrarily decided upon
right games as beneath them. The idea that people who aren't geeks and nerds might play games? Despicable.

Some of us just need to get over the fact that the audience for gaming has expanded, and that's that. Acting this way makes you look like a spoiled child, crying because you had to share with someone else. Those people need to grow the fuck up and stop being such entitled little shits for a change.
