It is starting to confuse me that people are starting to ask really obvious questions here on the Escapist. It almost seems like the person did not search around for the awnser to their question. I'm starting to think that some people just ask the question here for the sake of posting than the actual awnser. I think this really isn't a good idea because some of the thread titles are more generalized than the question it contains. This makes it difficult for more specific questions because "search bar apporved" would mess their posts up. What do you, the Escapists, think about the lack of previous searching?

People are lazy, thus they will post rather than search as it requires less effort.

But isn't it more of an effort to go through the porcess of making the post then it is to search it via serach bar?

They just can't think of an interesting thread and want badges.

Just tell said lazy people to google whatever it is they want an answer to. There we go, problem solved.

I'm not too bothered about searching, i'll click on a thread if it intrests me and leave of the contents boring. As for why people do it i'd suggest they either didn't think to look or just wanted the attention.

After all if you ask a question you can't find the answer for the chances of someone else having the answer are smaller so less people will reply, if it's an obvious answer then everyone will want to throw in their two cents.

Also this topic probably has a sense or irony behind it but i can't back that up as i didn't try searching for others :)

Even though I don't usually make a thread out of it, I personally prefer to ask folk about an issue or opinion as opposed to searching about it online.
Perhaps the mentality to create a thread before searching for it online is that a lot more can be gained from people's point of view as opposed to a static website, plus you have the advantage of multiple responses/POV's

But posting on their tread is just giving in to what they want.

Sometimes you'd rather hear what other escapists have to say before you search, just to get a concensus from an actual person, rather than a search engine that at times won't even get you near what you wanted.

It's laziness really and people who just want to get high post counts. I've asked questions of the escapist community but that's only been twice and both of those times I used up all other options.

Sometimes if you Google something it's on a random forum on a topic that finished 3 years ago and that you can't reply too.

The disuse of the search bar is really starting to bother me. Mainly because of this thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.203696-best-game-songs]. Do a search for "video game songs" and you will get over a dozen different threads dedicated to that topic. The fact that people keep remaking it is completely unnecessary. It's just a list thread. There's no excuse to not use an old on, no matter what date it was created on. I was sick of resposting the same thing in those threads, Now I've gotten sick of reposting. That's how often that thread is repeated. I think it's gotten worse than "zombie apocalypse" threads.

People just want attention/badges/higher post count. Some of those are actual dilemmas, but you specified that you mean "really obvious questions" so they sometimes don't even care much about getting a good answer, let alone bother with using the search bar.

Perhaps it's time to start up the "your favourite video game songs to play during a zombie apocalypse" threads. Just remember I thought of it 1st!

[sub][sub]If there's a thread like that already I will personally slap the OP. [/sub][/sub]
