So I recently borrowed my friend's copies of Battle Studies and Continuum both by John Mayer, and upon opening both cases I was awarded with a giant COLUMBIA. Columbia being his record company. Now I expected some credit somewhere but the Company's name was centered on both, right where your eyes would be if you open the cases and are much larger than both John Mayer's name and the title of more records. Now my question to you wonder Escapees is if this makes sense? Should the company come before record and artist? I think not. Unless the company wrote all the songs (John Mayer rights his own songs) then they should take a backseat. Though this is the only example of this kind I can think of many artists are known for writing songs about how bad record companies are (Amos Lee's Soul Suckers and Sarah Berelis' ((spelling?) Love Song) as well as OK Go recently leaving their company because they would not allow the band to post their videos on Youtube are all good examples of Artists not agreeing with their labels. From what I've heard this is a relatively common occurrence.
On another side, does anyone have any connection to record companies or the like? Do you like them?
