So I was thinking, when you buy a game that has music from bands and such for eg: Lacuna Coil's Swamped from the game Vampire The Masqurade: Bloodlines or something like that. Would you get that song included in the purchase? As if you were buying a single with the game or something?

I would doubt it, take Brutal legend, if you bought it, then you've bought hundreds of other songs well worth far more than the game itself

The game maker paid royalty rights to use the artists music in the game and in turn you purchased the game so I guess if you can find a way to take the music off the game then yes. However I have a horrible moral compass so who knows.

Haha, sorry, if there is one thing I'm not good at is propery explaining what I'm thinking. Ok, so when you buy a game, and said game has a song from a famous band or something in it, do you purchase that song as well as the game? Or would it be classed as illegal or something if you tried to extract it, etc.

I Think your more borrowing it under licence from the dev's and publishers rather than actually owning the song itself.

Can you really become a criminal just by copying a file from your bloodlines folder to your mp3 folder? Probably yes with the insane anti piracy laws that are being passed.

It's a lot more simple than "otherwise, games like Guitar Hero would be the end for rockers".
Much more simple.
OSTs.

If you were given ownership of the songs, what the hell would be the point of releasing OSTs?

Music used in games are similar to music used in movies, the studio pays a sum to the owners to use it, but they don't own it per se, so it's not yours, it's a borrow.

Well the problem there is that you dont own the game, you own a license to play the game, and not use anypart of it for any other purpose than playing it.

Most of the time this doesnt really make much difference, so you'r unlikely to get into any problems, but when the music is licensed version of something avaliable from another source then i can see why it might get messy. I'm not sure on the excat terms of the licensing of the music, but its a fair bet te mucian sees even less per track than they do if its sold normally.

No you do not own the must......You don't even own the game.

The developer got the rights to use the music in the game. You purchased a license to play said game which by default includes use of the music in the form which the rights were given....which means in the game. You cannot rip the songs out of the game with out violating legal crap.
