So, games usually have a point and a plot. At the very least a purpose. But there are often many other fun things to do! If the developer meant it or not.

Lately I've been playing Grand Theft day to day life V.

I drive normally, hang out with friends, do proper work. Just a regular day to day life really, I have a weird habit of striving to make my character get as good a retirement as possible. Gta V takes it a step further and just lets me have a happy life.

Missions happen, sure. But only like, every second day or so. Usually I just go on with my (Or the characters, whatever) life.

How about you? Got any weird derailing habits?

Not sure if these count but:

sometimes in RPG's I'll commit to playing a 'pure' class, even in games that don't encourage it. (For example playing as a 1st edition D&D thief in the elder scrolls series is an interesting challenge, no magic, only using potions you find, buy or steal etc).

In government games selecting a 'chosen people' (Capitalists, communists, environmentalists, religious or whatever) and play the whole game with them in mind. Not just aiming for 100% approval, in games you can have 100% approval and still do 'anti' things, but making every decision as if you are a (strawman?) 'chosen outlook'. (If I have to make other decisions to stay in power, obviously I will, but I aim to scrape in if my chosen people aren't numerous enough to 'auto-win' the election for me)

In 4x games it can be a nice challenge to play 'super friendly and forgiving'. Only fight in self defence, allow surrender/cease fire or peace at the earliest opportunity, believe everything you are told, only fight in allies defence, don't go to war just because they want to etc. Extremely challenging in older games although an interesting and workable strategy in more modern ones with improving diplomacy.
