Well as a friend pointed out to me, Joel kills what might well be the last brain surgeon in the US if not the world. That's... Pretty bad.
Probably just the US, The Last of Us operates under good old America = world logic.
He pretty much stopped being a reasonable, likable human being the moment his daughter died ten minutes into the game. It fucking destroyed his entire being, which in fact is why his selfishness and let's be honest, brutality is more tragic and interesting than just Nathan Drake wisecracking through the game killing every single not white American race
I still do not really like the game's universe in general but that's just me. The general consensus is that you shoot everyone in the head for looking at you funny (twice as a reference to Zombieland,) resort to canniblism when in a well defended encampment with guns, ammo a fuck off machine gun car that can easily organise hunting parties for animals instead of raid parties for humans and never show an inkling of kindness or sympathy towards anyone ever because
that's how the human mind works >.>

Well this seems as good a place to put my first post as any.
I understand why Joel made the decisions he did, even in the final act. If I were put in the same circumstances, I wouldn't have done what he did, but I really would have thought about it. However since it's what Ellie would have wanted, it's ultimately a selfish act.
While he's not exactly a white knight hero, at least he's far from a boring character. A flawed but deep protagonist is far better than a boring predictable one, that's for sure.
Welcome to The Escapist friend! Follow the rules, be nice and contribute to all the intellectual debates that may or may not be happening. Fair warning, R&P is a minefield and don't make a single joke in a sexism or racism threads because no Flame Shield can save you (trust me, i've done it)
Finally, keep out of The Basement. People who go in never come back...
