Yeah just cause I hate mainstream music cause it all sounds the same and I love music that not everyone knows. If I find someone who likes the same music as me though I don't try and like prove that I like them better. Unless someone says they like a band I like and can only name one song. That isnt liking a band that's liking a song by a band. HUGE difference. Also I make fun of hipsters all the time so people like to say that Im just hiding that I want to be one haha. Probably didnt help that for SuperHero/Villain day at school I went as Hipster Boy a Super Villain who goes around making sure everyone knows he thinks hes better than them. That was fun

There are times where I might look like one, as I frequently don skinny jeans and on the odd occassion a trilby but then again I'm at Uni, so tight-fitting/post-modern/androgynous clothing isn't too uncommon. I'm not fond of a very large percentage of mainstream music (not because it's mainstream obviously) and have an appreciation for foriegn/obscure films, though I have never been called/accussed of being a hipster, which is good as I sure as shit don't identify as one. I think less people are aware of the term in England anyway.

Never for not liking something popular but more for liking obscure games, Hell half of them aren't even obscure it's just they're not super mainstream.
Examples would be.

STALKER series
Timesplitters
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Oddworld series

I have been called a hipster by misinformed people, as I love loads of cult stuff, like Deadly premonition and The Room (which I am still yet to watch, but have seen enough on youtube)

If that's how you dress like a hipster then I guess I am. I just throw on jeans and a shirt, every so often throwing on a hoodie or long-sleeve collared shirt if it's cold.

Then again, most hipsters I've seen do the cardigan thing and wear skinny jeans with shirts that either have ironic self-effacing statements or is a mash of various colors. (For the life of me I don't get how purple, yellow and black can be put on a shirt and someone will think that it looks good.)

To me the appearance is a part of it, the most telling sign of a hipster is the attitude. Most hipsters are those guys on Youtube who will proclaim that they liked indie artist before anyone else, and then complain how she's gone "Too mainstream" since actually getting paid for her talent.
Wait... so you're a hipster if you wear skinny jeans? Cause in that case I am a hipster... though I only wear them because they're about the only thing I feel comfortable wearing (I am skinny so everything else feels like I'm wearing clown pants).

OT: No, never been called a hipster. I guess it's because I wear glasses with actual lenses, the fact that I choose them with the smallest frames ever so they wouldn't be too visible and the fact that there are so many hipsters around here that are soooo obviously hipsters that you need to try hard to stand out as a hipster. Also I have a positive attitude towards movies, books or games as long as they're not Twilight.

Ha. I wish I did. I'm far too boring.

I used to know two people you could call hipsters but one was really too nice and genuine to use that as an insult.

Jokingly I've been called a Hipster because I said I didn't like Halo. Also what with not dressing/talking/acting like a Hipster it avoids confusion.

Pffft, being a hipster is too mainstream. I got out of that trend before it got too lame and started liking things again.

Because you don't like something that's popular? Not disliking it BECAUSE it's popular, but just something being popular and you genuinely don't like it.

That's been happening to me a lot lately (even more so since I got my new glasses which are admittedly slightly hipsterish in appearance)

Does anyone else ever find themselves in this scenario?
I hated the mainstream before it was cool. ;)

I haven't been called a hipster, but before that term became mainstream, I was called an elitist frequently for my musical tastes. The funny thing is, I listen to a lot of mainstream music, just not necessarily the mainstream music the person talking to listens to, and thus...Elitist.

Similarly, I'm getting called out on not liking My Little Pony. There are actually people out there that simply do not like this show. It's not a crime, not a sin, not a transgression against humanity.

But the only reasons people can think of that I dislike the show is "it's cool to hate" or "You hate it because it's popular."

I'll get called a hipster eventually, I'm almost sure of it.

My friends say i am sometimes(not in a douchbagy way tho), they say its mainly because the way i look at life (and stuff) is very different from the average person, what that exactly means i cant really say...also i enjoy plaid shirts.

Can't say that I have, not sure if I'd be insulted by the implication or if I would die laughing, I figure I'm about as far from hipster as you can get.
