I used to feel that way for a while, but then one day there was a thread about which escapists you recognized, and my name came up a lot more than I thought. So it turns out a lot of people read the posts on here, it's just that you don't know that they did unless they reply or something.

Doesn't mean we can't enjoy our insignificant existences/posts while they last.

Yes, this forum is far too big for personalities.

I've been browsing the forums commenting on the odd thread here and there for over a year now and I don't recognise anyone ever. Every thread is full of a whole load of people I've never seen before.

I generally don't comment on threads that are on more than about 2 pages when I first get to them.

You'd be surprised how significant posts are. People would quote me after the following 6 pages in or more. Just because it's not the first post, doesn't mean people don't look up what everyone has to say. I almost read everyone's just to know how they think and feel. I love observing of course.

I've seen threads with massive write ups fail in comparison to easy to reply to, hot topic stuff. That's what convinces me that posting is ultimately pointless except as an escape from boredom. The forums don't reward effort, the forums reward controversy.

My posts have failed to get any reaction repeatedly. Tis why I lurk more now.

Of course its significant, people still read my posts after some amount of pages. That and it helps my post count.

Sometimes, plenty of topics exist where my opinion doesn't remotely stand out, and this one will likely be among them. In some threads, partly thanks to the sheer volume, standing out from the crowd is difficult without being an utter troll.

However, I've had enough threads basically dedicated to myself and a handful of others sparring on a particular topic that it doesn't bother me. Its partly why I enjoy the R&P section, even if no one changes their minds, the argument itself can be fulfilling.

I post anyway, and I know that people do read it because I usually receive a quoted message full of abuse because ive managed to offend someone.

I know, I shudder whenever I see I have a new message because it's almost always someone yelling at me for being stupid.

Oh man I know that feeling. Though I generally get a pretty even mix of agreement, disagreement, and neutral responses. I just really hate confrontation.
