Do you have reloading OCD?

I no longer feel alone! Every game I make it a point to reload at every chance I can. Fortunately in games like Call of Duty and Left 4 Dead I have gotten to the point of always being in a safe location or position before I even need to fire. That way my "insta-reload" has the protected time to work itself out.

For me it tends to differ based on the game:

COD: Yes, very much so, I'll reload after almost every kill

Halo: Sometimes but I'm not as OCD about it

TF2: Until I turned on auto-reload I had almost the opposite effect, I would rarely reload my gun unless I was out of ammo. (and even then I would often switch to another weapon effectively leaving me without a loaded weapon) Now the computer does all of the OCD reloading for me (It's kind of funny watching the computer try to reload a pistol between every shot I take)

*shoves in a mag and chambers a round* ... huh?

Yes, years of gaming and, in particular, online multiplayer FPS have ground in a deep seated instinct to reload the very instant there is the slightest break in combat.

I don't really think of it as OCD since I don't even really *THINK* about it at all anymore than I'm cognizant of pushing the move keys to move.

----

It's an interesting thing when playing a game like ARMA, where I actually *DO* think and pause before I reload and discard a magazine and with it any remaining rounds.

I do too. Anytime I'm not firing, I'm reloading.
I'm the same way about saving too. If the opportunity arises to save, I always do so twice. If I can save at any point, I save once every minute.

Yes, all the time, but usually I know when to reload, when to think I have enough for another encounter or when I should switch my weapon.

But it bugs me when I see others play and they don't reload their guns, even guns they don't have equipped at the time.

Ever since Goldeneye I reload straight after shooting, regardless of how much ammo I have left. It didn't take long, all Bond did was lower the guns just below the screen and then brought them back up again - somehow magically reloaded.

i sort of do but i make sure i'm safe from being shot when i do reload. had a number of occasions where i've come across a group after running around only to find there's only 1 bullet left. a few curse words later and i'm dead due to having to reload when i should have done it while running around

I do hardcore. Really comes in hand during things like Left 4 Dead though.

I tried to train myself off of it by playing CoD with te light machine guns. The ones that hold like, 200 rounds and take 10 seconds to reload. I ended up just dying a lot during reload times...

Yep, and as you mentioned, it's gotten me killed more than a few times. Get one kill, hit reload, halfway through the animation another enemy shows up, oh shit I'm screwed! :(

Although I get annoyed when they add all kinds of pointless bullshit to the reloading animation. Why are you taking so long to toss the old mag away, just get rid of it. Stop dicking around with all the little slides and shit, just point and shoot.

You know what perk I really liked during my brief stint of Black Ops multiplayer? Slight of hand. :p Combine that with the dual mag mod and every other reload took no time at all.

I have it to the point that back when WWII 2 games were all the rage, I would always fire off the entire clip of an M1 simply because I hated having anything less then a full magazine. It's also gotten me into some serious trouble on SWAT 4 and the original Rainbow Six games.

Only in appropriate situations.

e.g. On BFBC2 I'll make my squad of friends stop and reload in pairs before assaulting the objective.

I think a lot of the medium generation of gamers do have Reload OCD. I know I do. I was groomed on games like perfect dark and goldeneye, and things of that ilk, where it made no sense not to reload regularly. After every kill, maybe not...if there were no more enemies around. No, duck around a corner first. Then reload. <_<
This has come to bite me recently though. Fallout 3 has really bricked me on it a few times (even recently). Got killed twice by super mutant masters in that vault while I was backing around a corner reloading my .44. Was very annoying, especially since I'd not taken more than 3 shots either time.
Just didn't expect them to bull rush me the way they did. <_<

I still do, but I've been trying to break this habit. The first step towards doing so is to use a high capacity weapon, 3-round burst or semi-automatic. I'm trying to break this habit because right when I decide to reload I get shot at and I have to YY to aim at the guy by which time I've already got 20 bullets in my worthless skull. Also, gotta stop reloading around corners. Of course, it's just a matter of thinking "Do I have enough ammo to survive another encounter?" When you have 20 rounds left, the answer is yes.

I also cannot carry a secondary weapon without having it fully loaded.

Yup. I've tried not reloading, I start to actually itch. So watching my friends who aren't big FPS gamers play is...painful, to say the least.

Although I am good enough that it usually doesn't get me killed. Although I don't like LMGs for that reason... >>

What's up with all this OCD crap? Unless you guys are reloading after every shot or so in the middle of a fire fight! Then you're just being tactical and ensuring that in your next battle you'll have more ammo and won't have to resort to your backup.

Pretty much every gamer has this to start with, from my experience. Some stop doing it and go on to mow down those that do.
