im taking the "greedy" side on this.

if the npc has something that i want or is currently better than my current gear. i will murder them and everyone who opposes/witnesses.

or sometimes, i save and then kill the whole town and double check to make sure everyone is dead. it's an nice way to release steam or just have good ol' fashoned murder and death fun.

Well most of the times, no, i just leave them to they're business...

But i have found myself killing certain npc's that were cocky or just plain assholes... and never regretted it...

And when i want to test a weapon out, with new killing way, i save first and for example i load entire floors with mines and such.... just for the lols... i later reload and continue my adventure though xD

I usually leave NPCs alone...
Unless they attack me...
Or their immediate faction attacks me...
Or they are rude...
Or they look at me funny...
*ahem*

In fallout 3 I love to save and then and then put a combat shotgun/sniper rifle/mini nuke right into the father of atoms head, but since I saved I have the highest karma level. I also like to nuke myself just to see the ragdoll physics work their magic. Also vampire in Oblivion, need blood

Upon occasion. I was playing Caravan in Fallout: New Vegas with an NPC. He won several times and, assuming the AI was being a cheating bastard, I congraduated his winning streak by shooting him in the face with a lever action shotgun until it was no longer attached to the rest of his body, giggling for the longest time before loading a prior save and moving on. It can be very cathartic to do this.

I have to admit that the biggest annoyance I have with KOTOR (1&2) was that I couldn't just get into random fights, but then again it did make the whole rescuing person getting shaken down for money things more fun when I said that the fee for rescuing them was them giving me the money anyway, and that I only saved them because I wanted more fighting :D, but since I love playing on the Dark Side to get better force economy on force lightning, it would seem that I should really beat up innocent people, but it won't let me :(
In Deus Ex I don't think I killed that many innocent NPCs, even tho there was that woman who shopped me for going into the ladies' room, though I remember that at the same time I was playing Hitman Silent Assassin and Blood Money. On Blood Money, I loved killing everything that moved, subtlety wasn't my forte. I remember the paddleboat level where i bombed the party rooms, and the one in New Orleans where I gunned out the party crowd, then changed outfit and nobody recognised me :D

Depends on the game really, In The S.T.A.L.K.E.R's i do all the time "Get me big gun" *i go fetch big gun, give it to them collect reward* Then I shoot them, and i get rewards and the big gun :D

NPC = Non-player character.

Yes, I have killed NPCs because I have played single player campagins before and there is NO KIND OF ENEMY in single-player that isn't an NPC.

I kill non-vital NPC`s in new vegas just for their meat.

Other than that i will not harm a hair on their head unless they get in my way. then i`ll kill them without mercy.

I enjoy all of the friendly npc's company in Dark Souls and didnt want to kill any of them. But unfortunatley I pressed the wrong button and hit the fat guy, he then tried to kill me so I killed him. He last words where "why..." I was devastated and wished I could bring him back.

Moral: Don't kill any npc's in Dark Souls or live with the burden until new game+
