In defence of the British. They don't just seem to have low production values. The DO have low production values. I remember an interview with a costume designer for Blake's 7 and Classic Dr Who back in the late 1970's. She had a weekly budget of 100 pounds per episode - or about $155 US. Yeah...think about that for a sec.

I personally love the British shows including the old and dated ones. And I love entertaining myself through foreign concepts and media. I love international foods - eating is a pleasure and thus entertainment; I listen to music from Germany, Japan, UK, America even; When I watch TV I'm more than happy to flick over to the international channel SBS and watch a foreign language movie with subtitles; I love Manga and in fact prefer them over American comics which bore me to tears.

Captcha: haters gonna hate. Very true Captcha. I guess in the end it all amounts to your own personal preferences.

Hell the fuck yeah! I enjoy a ton of different properties made outside the US, from games to movies, to music. Hell, a ton of my favorite music is made in places like Britain, Denmark, Germany, Canada, Sweden, Russia, and Japan, to name a few. Hell, some people claim that I've got limited taste, but I usually retort with something along the lines of "On my Ipod, I've got music made in over 20 different countries. In my game and film libraries, I have even more. Am I the one who limits themselves, or have you just viewed me through your limitations?

Hmmm... OP doesn't like British music? Strikes me as a country fan then... because that is the only type of music in the US that the UK hasn't had a major star contribute too...

You can go back to Classic Rock, where a LOT of the big players were Brits.. Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Iron Maiden, Queen, Cream, The Who, Super Tramp, Status Quo, Genesis, King Crimson and 90% of the punk era like The Clash and the Sex Pistols.

Then you have new romantic stuff like Joy Division, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, ELO, The Cure, Ultravox and the Smiths...

Go forward to stuff like Radiohead, Muse, Oasis, The Prodigy, Franz Ferdinand, Blur, Coldplay, Super Furry Animals, Supergrass, PJ Harvey and the Libertines.

You have your electronic masters like Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Lemon Jelly, Four Tet and Mr Scruff.

We even have some urban and rap like the Streets, Dizzy Rascal and Tinie Tempah...

And that is just names of British artists that came to my head when I wrote! You can't tell me that our music is any less quality! :p

OT: I do enjoy stuff from other contries, almost as much as my own... in fact I won't usually look at where something is from before I wacth/read/listen/play it. I love films from other countries, in fact, Scandinavian films are catching my attention more at the moment (when translated) and of course you can't get far without playing US/Japanese games or watching US/Asian films!

I listen to a lot of electronic music too... but I never usually look up the nationality (hence the small selection above... they are the only ones I know are definitely British!) I know a lot of what I listen too is European though.

I still have a soft spot for British stuff though. I love British films, especially stuff on the Warp Films label, but we also have a big hand in stuff like Harry Potter too...! And you can't say no to a nice dose of British comedy!

Yep, mostly Japanese and British.

I watch a lot of anime and I enjoy the British shows on PBS' Masterpiece Theater. "Sherlock" and "Foyle's War" are two of the best mystery/crime drama TV series I've ever seen. "MI-5" is also a pretty good British TV series, I'll have finish it someday on Netflix. I plan on eventually viewing Dr. Who and Red Dwarf. Oh and I'm also a fan of the James Bond films and I enjoyed the Harry Potter books and films.

Well as a Finn we don't have too much good entertainment of our own except for some good music but other than a few good things here and there we have to bring all the entertainment stuff from elsewhere. Mainly US and I like English/Brittish stuff too a lot. Then there's some Manga I read so some Eastern stuff too in there.

Tv and Movies has to be the one field where 90% if my consumption is foreign. Mostly from the US, or more accurately hollywood and similar places in the US because they sure as hell aren't from Zanesville, Ohio.

Games are also majorly foreign. Although there are actually a fair bit of games of Swedish origin that I play. Not Swedish games, but games produced by Swedes.

Music is 50/50 really. A lot is from domestic sources, either in Swedish or Swedish bands singing in english. Most other are from the english speaking world, with a few from elsewhere.

I'm really a very vanilla person when it comes to media.

I'm from Holland... nuff said.

A better question would be if I actually like any media from my own country. Which, apart from maybe one movie and a few comedy groups who aren't active anymore..., no.

We still have Paul Verhoeven and Rutger Hauer though. And Famke Jansen is pretty cool, too.

I'm British and it's pretty hard to avoid films from America and games from the USA/Japan. I do watch alot of anime tho and the occasional Australian film.

Well, obviously there's anime.

I like music from all over the world.
EG: Amon Tobin (Brazil)
Hol Baumann (France)
Infected Mushroom (Israel)
Extrawelt, Stephan Bodzin (Germany)
Trentomoller, Kellermensch (Denmark)
Robyn (Sweden)

America makes lots of good shows and movies.

But the best action movie I've seen, (The Raid) was Indonesian (and it was FUCKING awesome)

And I absolutely adored Severance, which was British-German, and got me interested in horror.
(Highlights are the man-trap, the rocket launcher, and the twist to do with the war-criminal.)

I'm a sucker for Doctor Who, Edgar Wright movies, and I've read, like, 2 manga series, so it's really not much of a barrier for me as long as it comes in English.

Considering the only thing form of entertainment I like from the country I live in/grew up in is an indie band, and I don't like any forms of entertainment from my nation of birth, yes.

I like anime. Youtube makes it easy to watch Let's Plays from the UK.
I was thinking about reading furigana manga too--I'm learning Japanese.

Aside from American shows/movies, I 'm getting more and more interested in Korean dramas. Dunno, I just like them. It has a certain charm. I didn't like dramas of any type before. So much has changed. I just don't like cliches but all dramas have it so oh well.

Also, I tend to find Asian guys cuter than Western guys :p They're more my type haha. And I'm also half Asian sooo.

Of course. I don't generally listen to music made in or by Americans (preferring J-rock, K-Pop, UK & Scandinavian Metal, etc). I think a lot of the cartoons I watch are animated by Korean studios and, the voice acting done in Canada even if they're originally conceived in the US. When it comes to video games, I would almost say I strongly prefer Japanese games to Western ones. I like stuff that was made in the USA but I also enjoy stuff that wasn't...As for things that were made abroad but then remade in the US...we can't do it. The Office was better, Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares (UK) was better, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...well I haven't seen that one.

I think I like American Superhero comics a bit more than manga and I don't even read foreign comics despite having heard great things about Tintin and...uh...I know there are other well known comics out there...oh well.

Also this! The only thing I'll watch on American TV are cartoons and that hasn't happened in months. I've watched NHK but that's not American TV...or Korean. Anyway, just wanted to use that quote to squee and say "My Girlfriend is a Gumioh" is my favorite K-Drama.
