This one is the proper version! Currently there is another spam-bot thread going around with the exact same title. Please report it and don't comment on it. Instead, comment on this one!

So, freebies - we all know about them. Often cheap and a bit crummy and frequently advertise thigns (like pencils, small toys, etc), these little treats in life can both bring enjoyment and annoyance.

So! Escapists! Do you like freebies? Can you actually find a use for them, or are they just a waste of space?

edit: oh by the way, this is also a bit of an experimentational anti-troll thread. By having the exact same title as another troll-thread, I'm hoping to divert attention away from it and onto this one, thus allowing it to sink under the forums faster. I wander if it will work? Afterall, the "report and move on" thing doesn't really work, as it has the opposite affect... since this isn't on that thread, I can warn people and not bump up the troll thread at the same time!

edit 2: Success! It appears that the troll version of the thread has been pretty much submerged, while my version is still alive and kicking. Maybe I could use this tactic with more frequency...?

I think anyone who would not take a given oppurtunity to get something beneficial (or even something that isn't harmful) for free is a chump. Why the hell wouldn't you?

I find that people often don't respect stuff that they got for free, even if it is better than stuff that they paid for. It is strange.
I respect stuff MORE if I get it for free. "Ah damn, this isn't working, but hey, I did get it for FREE"

By free I mean financially so... I know such objects do have certain costs, such as your immortal soul, but those costs are irrelevant here.

Sometimes they're really good, as in free add ons for something, free coffe mug, free card to get cheap ass dominos.

But if it's so I have to get the free thing to go to somewhre to spend the same amount at a later date (unlike dominos where it's a student card) then what's the point, it's not free, just silly.

Anything that is 'free', and by anything i mean things like pencils and toys and things as mentioned earlier, has it's purpose; which is most likely advertising. This makes the company more money. So free? initially yeah, but its still making someone money, almost everything these days is....

See the overall problem with free stuff is it's usually tat... 'you get what you pay for' tends to be relatively true.

So, I love the concept of free stuff but generally it fails to deliver.

As a side note, possibly the best free stuff I have ever been given was during the freshers week at university during which I was given a bag containing both condoms and sanitary towels. I'm not ashamed to say the towels made good drinks coasters.

I was wondering why this thread had your name on it when I could have sworn it was someone else, but it's all explained now. I guess it depends, sometimes getting something for free is nice, but I think it's always nicer to receive it off a friend or family member or something, because I feel less guilty about taking free things from them.

My answer would be... Hell Yes!!

Now to explain: I wear black or brown t-shirts and I can only find three shirts in my wardrobe that don't have a logo on them. As long as it looks nice and it doesn't have a large logo they can print anything on my shirts.

I'm a walking commercial with all the different shirts and logos but it keeps me dressed and it's free. :)

Yes I like free stuff but again, as has been said, it depends on what is "free". If it's a used towel, then no thanks. But if it's a Lamborghini, then yes..dear god yes!.

The other week I got 3 free pots of Ambrosia custard when walking out of a cinema; they were normal, strawberry and banana.
