I like Naruto now, but I did not when my brother first started watching it. Then I heard what sounded to be a variation on Bach's Toccata and Fugue in the background sometime during the chunnin exams and was drawn in. I hate Shippuuden's pacing though.

Frankly, if you take away his hollow, Ichigo'll be a piece of worthless crap.
He didn't even know how to use the black getsuga until his hollow showed him -.-
At least Naruto has his sage mode.

also naruto always comes in a team of 3 or more. naruto has had his sage mode for about 5 episodes now so it hardly counts.
The Japanese (or original version) I enjoy.
Because it has a well thought out and complex fantasy world with plenty of interesting characters and some cool fights.
Sadly this week the animation during the Pein fight looked out of FLCL and really out of place. Manga is still top notch.

so wait ichigo's only useful when a demon takes him over.

The anime, no. The Manga yes. Although my opinion of it has gone down A LOT since the ending to a certain fairly recent arc. If you've read the manga you'll know which one I'm on about.
Naruto has always been kinda liekable. Like bleach it has a wide variety of interesting characters. However, teh sub plots and teh shameless dragging out of the cool bits make it had to watch sometimes...
And then,
Naruto Shippuden, the lastest few months of it, have turned the series completely around. They have started doing really cool stuff, that in teh earlier seasons would have taken dozens of episodes, and doing it in 3 or 4 episodes. Personally, i think that the creatiors have fianlly begun listening to the fans, not teh rabis ones who will love it whatever it flaws; You know, the kind of people that liked "curry of life", but the ones who had genuinly good ideas, like better pacing, better music, and better action.
So yeah, Naruto is okay, Shippuden is good and teh last few months have been great.
And then,

Naruto knows one move too, Rasengan, but at least he has variations of that. Double rasengan; odama rasengan; futon rasenshuriken, etc.
Ichigo just knows that one move and uses it that one way. And if his hollow never showed him that, he would have never known how to use it.
