I listen to Japanese music largely because the lyrical content is fantastic (I read the translations). I also listen to Rammstein for the same reason, as well as just general awesomeness.

A bit of Japanese stuff, although if I could find something decent in Latin I'd be all over that...

Die Eier Von Satan means "The Eggs (slang for balls) of Satan" And I commend you for listening to TOOL. I listen to Rammstein a lot, because it's awesome.

German, Japanese, Russian, Romanian, Latin, and Lakota.

I understand the lyrics to all but the German and Romanian ones.

And various other European Bands that it's rare to find fans of in merry old England. Most of the populus seems content with listening to prepackaged garbage that reality shows seem to squirt out. and thus begins a 3 hour rant about the "joys of english music, television, and general rubbish, don't worry i'll spare you

I listen to foreign hip-hop, like French, German and Turkish.

It doesn't matter to me that I don't understand the lyrics, because for me Hip-Hop is more about the music than the lyrics, and I think of vocals as just another instrument.

Also I have to admit that I don't understand half the things said in American Hip-Hop, even if I do recognise the language, so foreign Hip-Hop isn't really that different to me.

Thinking about it, I have quite a bit of music sung in a foreign language, and my lack of understanding isn't an obstacle, as the vocals are another instrument and if they sound good, they sound good.

I like Operas and Pavarotti, but I don't have a clue what they're singing about, and I prefer 99 Luftballoons to 99 Red Balloons, it just sounds better.

Rammstein, Theatre of Tragedy and Psydoll, and I have no idea what they're saying, nor do I care.
Hell even when the lyrics are in english I don't care what they're saying (and usually the lyrics aren't that good).
Music is music.

Yes. I have a couple of songs on my iPod that are in Japanese. They are mainly from Japanese video games but I think Japanese songs are so beautiful.

I Listen to music in German (Metal band called Oomph!) and understand that thanks to three years of German in high school. Also listen to music in Japanese (Mostly anime OP and ED) and understand a word here or there. One thing i listen to is Hawaiian Hula music, and i dont understand a word of it but still find it beuatiful.

Oh you came so close to having me go search bar nazi on you since a foreign music thread was done yesterday. Yours has a varient however so I'll let it slide.

OT: I listen to alot of Jpop, Jrock, and German Industrial.
just out of curiosity, do you understand any of it? I can watch raw anime and get a general idea of what they're saying, especially considering most speech in current anime I watch isn't particularly complex(naruto, bleach, one piece), but I can't understand anything said in the music.

I sometimes watch raw anime of *ehem* more adult themed anime and can usually get the jist of it, but when it comes to music Im completely lost. I just like it because it flows better than what we have here in the states.

Well, the thing is I can only really understand short phrases, if I tried to watch death note raw for instance I'd be completely lost.

the beauty of watching shoen is that I don't need to watch subbed anime to enjoy it fully.

I took four semesters of Japanese in college, so I can understand a good amount of what's being sung. Now see, I think it's easier to understand the songs than the actual language. I notice a tendancy to elongate sounds that usually are said together, which gives me a better chance of hearing it and working it through in my head.

I hate it when I understand the lyrics to songs. Lyricists haven't come up with a new topic in thousands of years, and most of them can't write for crap.
