Do you mind Grind

Depends - sometimes I'm in the mood for grinding, most of the time I'm not.
If you *have* to grind to get somewhere, I don't like it.

Once played an MMO where there was not enough quests to effectively level up your character's two classes (one was fine, but doing the other class was really annoying, but it's something you really want to do for the shared abilities), and it made me quit the game.

Just not much fun in endlessly killing mobs for the sake of killing mobs.

On my new PSP I got Phantasy Star Portable 2 and its non-stop grind. Yet I find it such a kick ass game.

On my DS - my two most played games are DQ 9 and Disgaea - Those games are nothing but grind.

Grinds have their place.

I do. I like diversity in things but if it needs to be done... oh well. Not for too long though because I'm always afraid that my brain will leave a note of absence sooner or later without me noticing even that.

Depends on the game. In Final Fantasy IX I was perfectly happy to just walk around for hours bashing monsters over the head and levelling up (possibly because I got to see all the various characters earning individual abilities which was a more definite reward) but in FFVII I was just trying to finish the damn game.

I guess it kind of depends on the story, for some reason I never got a sense of urgency from FFIX until after the third disk, by which point I was already a ridiculously high level, so it didn't matter, whereas games like Mass Effect or KoToR try and keep the theme or urgency throughout, which rings a bit false when you can take some time out to go exploring for minerals in the middle of your 'frnatic galactic quest.'

But I do still do it anyway. It's a puzzle.

Depends on the game.

I like Runescape, but only because of its massive user base (because I there's a lot of people to socially interact with).

If nobody played runescape, the game would utterly suck.

In theory, I hate it, yet I have played games with lots of grind and not noticed. I guess so long as I'm moving towards a defined goal and am making noticeable progress, it doesn't bother me too much.

It depends. There is fun grinding, and then there's boring grinding.

I don't mind the kind of grinding where you have to beat the crap out of everything you can see, but when you're getting no experience for battles that take ten minutes of menu-scrolling...hell no.

I'm going to have to grind for a while in order to beat yet another ridiculously tough boss in Final Fantasy 13. Why did they make that game soooo much harder than all of the previous ones? I mean, it's refreshing to have a challenge, but it can be really frustrating!

Really? I thought it was really easy in comparison to older ones. Wait till you get to the very final boss...you're either going to be relieved, or really REALLY disappointed.

The only good grind is the kind you don't realize you're doing.

Basically this.

Good grind is unnoticeable; bad grind is noticeable. Which is probably why there is a ton of people who complain about grind while every game is grinding to some degree no matter how well hidden it is.

Sounds like Runes of Magic. Grinding the daily quests for my secondary class was what drove me away. They really need more content at the higher levels.

I spent 12 hours killing the same monster again and again in MHFU to get new armour. I don't mind grind at all.

I hate grind. thats why I left WoW at level 37.

OT: Depending on the game and the circumstances involved I can stand a minimal amount of grinding. Interesting gameplay while grinding or having some way of seeing that my working is actually getting me somewhere helps ease my annoyance.

Case in point-Ginding faction rep in wow can be annoying if I don't pace myself or if I don't have a buddy along with me,but getting that mount or other special item makes me forget whatever mild irritation I may have had.
