Do you mind when your favorite content creators sell you "scams"?

Oh man, so many people pushing Raid: Shadow Legends. Or Raycon earbuds, aka rebranded chinese designs you can find on AliExpress for much cheaper.

But to answer the title question, no, it doesn't bother me. I'm well aware shilling is what makes the youtube world revolves unless you've big enough to survive solely off patreon or ad revenue, so I usually just zone out and/or skip it.

Bonus answer to bonus question: no, I've never bought any.
But raid: shadow legends is completely different from the usual F2P stuff and you'd be surprise how much you'll enjoy actually playing it. /s

If people with enough disposable income want to indirectly fund youtuber I watch, I'm not going to stop them. I generally assume that if something is being advertised to me there's a catch so I just don't really listen to adds, but I don't have a problem with them, even if they end up a bit scammy (so long as its not full scam). I never really understood loot crate, it's cool when its a franchise you care about, but at that point I'd rather just straight up buy it, unless you're literally into every video game/anime out there, you're going to get a bunch of stuff you don't care and it'll be cheaper to just buy stuff individually. I'm moving soon and I'm already throwing so much stuff that I actually care for, never mind stuff I don't care for.

I never subscribed to loot crate but I did end up with some of their stuff from swap meets. Someone was just giving away a metal salor moon wand bottle opener. I still use it to this day.
I never subscribe to anything. My sister gets all sorts of crap working for the University though so no telling where she picked up the Loot Crate stuff. I know she doesn't subscribe to anything herself so if it was sent to her someone else may have sent it as a gift. She adds goofy stuff like that all the time to my packages.

Doesn't it have something to do with youtube demonetizing videos left and right a while back? I remember there was a big deal about that a couple years back and apparently it's become a lot harder for youtubers to make ends meet because of it.

Or maybe I'm thinking of something else but I can't remember off the top of my head.
I remember something like that a while back. I thought they demonetized videos targeting kids due to all that unboxing crap, so that would likely impact a lot of items thought to do so.

I've only ever gotten razors, but then they were bought for me so I didn't really care if they lived up the promises.
Get a safety razor. The blades are cheap (and last a good few cuts) and the shave is good. I used to swear by Azor, but since I went to safety razors I'd never go back to cartridges. Better shave, miles cheaper, less plastic - better in all ways.

You can trust me because I'm not a content creator, I just care about shaving.

I just thought they got temporarily posessed by marketing spirits released by the tireless lovecraftian capitalist machine after it burps up the last generation's disallusioned resignation to the void. Now you're saying they willingly choose these deviant outbursts?

Omg even lildevils is shilling lootcrate now too! NO ONE. IS SAFE!

I didn't get around to buying loot crate or similar stuff. You can't get disappointed if you don't buy into it in the first place.

It really depends on the product. Something might only be known to be shit by a few people who dug real deep on the internet, but other things without thinking about any particular product, some things might be so bad in common knowledge that it'd seem psycho to advertise the product.

I think there's just way too much context required to give a simple yes or no to this question.

and for arguments same: junk food. Coca cola is fucking poison that kills people from obesity. Would it bother you to see a coca cola advertisement? MacDonald's?

I did dollar shave club once. They were doing one of those promotions where your first time was $5 and you got a razor handle, 3 blades, their "shave butter" etc.

I was going on a trip to Japan and didn't want to bring my nice electric razor with me so I thought I'd try it. I unpacked it and it all looked pretty nice. The handle was metal and felt nice and heavy in the hand, the heads had 5 razor blades and moister strips, etc.

Dollar Shave Club razor blades are the worst razor blades I've ever used in my life. They are dull as hell. I think they might be recycled or something, but they're just terrible.

I used the razors for 2 days, then one of the hotels I stayed at had free disposable razors. Decided to use one of those instead. Cheap plastic handles, only 2 blades in the head instead of 5, as cheap as you could possibly get, but it didn't matter because they were sharp and therefore didn't but the shit out of my face.

Haven't used a single other product any podcast, youtuber, etc tries to sell me.

Yup, YouTube both changed the way ad revenue was earned and the rules for monetization, which made every YouTuber resort to patreon, more sponsors, memberships, etc.

Get a safety razor.
Interesting. I will try them out once my current supply runs out.

Honestly? Yes. Fuck Coke, and fuck McDonalds as well. In my country, Covid is still running rampant, and a couple of major corporations (Coca Cole and McDonalds among them) put out this marketing campaign to encourage people to go back out and risk their lives to buy their products again. All the while making no effort to help combat this pandemic. But I do care very little for ads in general, even from brands I don't have a problem with.

Are you sure? Looks like they're still operating.
Oh, they're still operating. I thought they were just trying to fulfill the last subscriptions they had before they went bankrupt.

Was it good?
I've determined that either my problem is too strong for CBD to handle (though in it's defense, I hit my one year anniversary of these chronic head/back issues and have had about three different specialists working on it at some point with minimal luck) or CBD just isn't for me.

In this case, I'm not really blaming the product (or the content creator DJ guy for turning me to a product that didn't really work) as I've had this same exact experience with other CBD products and I have heard from enough people about this particular brand that I'll still trust this guy if he ever gives a recommendation on a product that sounds interesting.

I was thinking about getting a VPN and got one of those "use the link in the description to get it for £1 a month" things. Can't remember the Youtuber.

Loot crate always looked ridiculous to me. "Pay us to send you some random tat" . Maybe it's because I'm old and don't like clutter, but it just looked like a bunch of shit from the bottom of an old toybox, mostly comprised of stuff you got for free out of a cereal packet or off the front of magazines.

I enjoy seeing stuff like "This video is sponsored by Manscaped... say goodbye to your hairy balls with the new Ball Trimmer 5000 X-TREEM, order now and get this other thing to wax your hairy balls... now back to the video about two girls who went missing in South America..." but I'll never buy any of this crap.

One of the channels I'm subscribed to did a video sponsored by them, and it was utterly hilarious (the guy got his wife to do an ad-libbed review).

Other than that, the content creators I follow are generally sponsored by companies that are selling the games that the content creators are covering already. It doesn't detract/add anything to the content per se, so I generally think nothing of it (I generally watch them more for the creator and less for the content covered).

Kings & Generals has a number of different sponsors, and I typically skip the sponsorship skit they're obliged to do (something something vendetta YouTube has against history-related content creators that I missed at some point).

I like ACG because he's strongly against "sponsored bullcrap" but he's quite open about how badly the algorithm and Youtube's demonetization is hitting his channel.
I contribute to his patreon (and a number of others), and I feel that that's a much better way to spend my money than on some weird sponsored product that I don't even want.
