The Subject is do you play DoTA, My friends trying to get me to try this FPS/RTS game called DoTA on Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, But I'm not sure if its a good game so I dicided to ask fellow Escapisits. Do/did you play DoTA? And if so would you recommend it?

If you play Frozen Throne, stick to random matches; that's where you need real skill. DotA, you just grind away at the endlessly spawning npc enemies while occasionally coming across an enemy hero(player).

Sounds like someone doesn't get DotA at all. My condolences for your bad experiences with the game.

I play it now and then, just when I feel up to facing the Battlenet children of anger. Once in a while you find a game full of fun, enjoyable people, but it is a rare occurrence.

It's ok. I mean, I usually enjoy playing games because they generally give you this set of rules, and then you get to learn it and let it take you in and you eventually backstab it and learn to break the game. I actually didn't get that feeling at all from playing DOTA though. I had nothing to pull me in and make me want to keep playing it. I generally only play DOTA if friends ask me to play a friendly little match.
If you don't have Warcraft III: TFT already, then you probably shouldn't get it just for DOTA. If you have it already, then I suppose there's no real harm in giving it a go, but there are better custom maps than DOTA.

It's a game for multiple people... you need at least one experienced player to help you figure out all the sweet items, but overall it is just a lot of grinding away at each others defenses till one side wins.

You're better off playing something like MooMoo ^_^ I love that one.

If you like it you like it, if you don't you don't. You really need to learn a bunch of new stuff in order to play well. Personally, I say "Say NotA to DotA!"

Just a heads up, DOTA is neither an FPS, nor an RTS. It's purely an RPG mod for Warcraft3 which sees a team of players pick a hero, grind for experiance, then attack another team of heroes.

I've played it a few times at LANs, and I'd definetly say that it's best played in a LAN environment... once or twice, just to say you've played it...

Although I will recommend getting WC3:The Frozen Throne if you like RTSs

If your into RPGs and strategy it`s a very nice game. There are few things out there like it. Probably the WOW arena is the closest thing to it.

I say give it a try and if you don`t like it , well don`t play.

Damnit. Now the DOTA song is stuck in my head. Again.

Anyway, I could never get into DOTA. If I wanted to play an RPG, I'd play and RPG.
