Do you read books based on games?

I really want to read the new Star Wars novel about Revan (From KotOR), so I guess that kinda counts.

AVOID THAT BOOK! I was really disappointed by it.

Really? Aw, I figured it would turn out really good since it was from one of the writers of KotOR who went on to do some apparently decent Mass Effect books...

It only serves purpose to fill in the gaps (like how Canderous became the Mandelore). As a story, it just sucks. You're probably wanting/expecting to see some of the old KOTOR characters but the author gives crappy reasons not to bring them back.

It feels that the author only wrote the book to sell The Old Republic to KOTOR fans. It was a horrible attempt by the way..

So, you're emotionally attached to Revan and Exile like I was, do not read it. This book goes into long lines of disappointing Star wars books and movies.

I was never into Star Wars movies (not even the original ones). To me, KOTOR is the best thing that ever happened. And they ruined it with this book. Now I understand what hardcore Star Wars fans feel.

Some of the Halo books were very well written, I enjoyed them a lot. FoR was a nice start but my memory becomes kinda iffy from then on. Evolutions was quite a nice read too.

I've read both the Mass Effect and the Halo book, I thought they were good. The actual plot in most of the books was just okay. What made them good was the explanation of the universe the story takes place in. One of the Mass Effect novels goes into a lot of detail on Quarian society.

No, I?ve played games off books but as far as I can recall I?ve never read a book based on a game series all the way thru. Honestly I kind of assume that they re all going to be shit...which probably isn?t true. I?m sure there are some good books based of games.

I tried to read some of the mass effect books, but I gave up. The writer, Drew Karpyshyn, has very interesting ideas and he can write reasonable dialogue between characters. It's just that everything else that is not dialogue is awful. When characters are talking, it's generally okay. But whenever he tries to describe action or scenery or character's thoughts, it gets pretty bad.

I tend to disregard anything outside of a main series. If it's a book or a cross-over game I consider it outside of the canon. Demoted to fanfiction basically.

A few years ago I read a couple of the Halo books, as some have said they are quite useful for filling in gaps and what not.

I Love The Gears of War novels. Adore them. I jumped for joy when I found out Travis wrote the third game.

Also, I'm halfway through the Uncharted novel, and I'm liking that. The Assassin's Creed Novels were cool, but I loved the Resident Evil novels. Read my first one in 5th grade and never went back

I also loved Deus Ex; Icarus Effect ad the Starcraft Novels, especially the dark templar saga~

Read the lord of the rings books, and The Hobbit.

The rest of the books I've ever read dont have a game to go with em sadly

I have read the perfect dark novels, a sonic the hedgehog book, and a really old book of heroquest (a board game) which were all very well written and fun, even by the standards of other writers.

I think because it's something they love and can visualise, they have more to draw upon!

I have never read one. I have nothing against reading one, but it just never came up before. I have way too much on my plate to finish right now, but hope to find something engaging in the future.

I've read all but a few of the Halo Novels and I found them very good despite the timeline fuck up they eventually caused(looking at you Fall of Reach). I have also read some of the Tom Clancy novels that came after the games and they were also quite good.

Read the Deceived novel, now reading Revan, both are from KOTOR and the upcoming TOR. I felt like reading them to get a bit of an insight into the game and Revan I also want to read to kind close the chapter on KOTOR, interested in how they'll spin it. I can't say it's some huge literary classic of course and yes, I can see some flaws in style and such, but I still found Deceived quite enjoyable and I'm enjoying Revan so far.

I've read the dragon age books, they're actually quite good, and I more recently started the assassins creed books, they're ok, as they are just literally book versions of the games, without the modern-day stuff, with some minor differences and more talking

Well, I have all the Kingdom Hearts manga, if that counts.

Also, when I played Magic: the Gathering, I'd always read the books that came out each new expansion.

I also have the first City of Heroes comic.

I've been meaning to pick up the Bioshock: Rapture book. I'll get around to that eventually, I've heard good things.

I have read the Mass Effect books which were very enjoyable. I'm getting ready to read the Assaisans Creed books.

Has anyone read the Guild Wars book? I'm interested in them but if there not that good then i'll get them later.
